Good luck getting anything accomplished with dmv these days. My mil has been trying to get her registration switched from oxford to fairfield for about a year now to no avail.

DMV is useless. I had to submit my change of address form THREE times before it was finally changed in their system. I also got a letter saying "we forgot to send you a renewal notice, please carry this letter in your vehicle in case you get pulled over". REALLY!! You think if my car isn't registered, a cop is going to say "oh okay, since you have a letter from a DMV nitwit, i'll let it slide".

Actually the cop will. This was a publically announced problem so a cop is going to know that a number of vehicles fell through the cracks. They are not looking to harass people, just to make sure their car is legally registered. Jay

Property including cars that are on the "Grand List" as of Oct 1st (each year) will be taxed by each town / city for the upcoming year. I would wait to register the car in the new state if possible to avoid the hassle.

The towns also only prorate by months, so worse case scenario you will owe 1/12 of the yearly tax assessed.
