We are moving to Fl. And I am in the process of selecting a mover. We have a large house. About 13,000 lbs of furniture and personal items. Choices are by cubic foot, weight or ADF UPack and hire movers for the heavy stuff. Any thoughts or recommendations?

2 years ago in june ... my son and family moved to Charleston from CT with about 12k lbs of household goods...and a lot of other stuff .....he wanted to use a locally owned CT moving company since he was acquainted with the owner ....did check the national firms as well... bids were comparable ....to include a 30% contingency charge for a one way move since they were flooded with one way moves and the likelihood of not getting a load on the way back...the local mover ... wouldn't negotiate the contingency ...but the national firms reduced the contingency to 20% ... and his feeling was that a national firm had a higher likelihood of success in arranging at least a partial load northbound....which they did ... and didn't add the charge at the end of the day... got a pickup in Charlotte going to Boston.

They also arranged for moving the non household stuff .... a car .. boat ..etc ... lots of etc play things ..lol.. instead of having to arrange each of those moves himself .... took a load off his shoulders.
