Default Where is the best place to live close to New Haven for the middle class?

Hi, I'm doing a lot of research in Northeastern States, and I find out that one of the good places to live in Maine is Portland, in MASS Beverly.
We try to relocate from TN, and Connecticut seems very interesting for my family. I would like to know where is the best place to live around New Haven? Good neighborhood to rent apt. Transportation, Big shopping Malls, outdoor sports like soccer.
Has anybody live in these other places, Beverly MASS, Portland Maine, and New Haven Connecticut.
I want to compare it. Which one is the best to live?
I would appreciate any information.
Thank you

I would say to check out Milford. It is near New Haven, has great shopping and a lot of restuarants and entertainment options. Jay
