There are several towns where public works is absolutely awful and snow clearing is a joke. Ridgefield's public works is excellent - probably among the best I've seen.

Also, Ridgefield is not "known" to close schools for this reason. In fact, I don't think that has ever happened so I'm not sure where that came from.

I just asked a Ridgefield elementary school teacher of 8 years if this happened and she confirmed, Ridgefield did not cancel schools because bus drivers "could not see" around some of the turns.

It is not only this, it is the attitude in a town that they want to provide the best education possible and they are not afraid to pay for it. It is the little things like how many guidance counselors there are to assist students or if teachers have para's to assist them in classes. Extra reading teachers help as well. These thing make small but important differences that are hard to quantify. Jay

Teacher gets a phone call that school is closed due to road conditions is not the most reliable source. A bus driver may recall the line of site issue, this is taking the thread off track and is of no help to the OP. Both school systems are great, one is more diverse than the other.

If school is cancelled, it's usually due to inclement weather. If there's another reason a school is closed, you can bet that every teacher would know why.

If you don't want to go off track, let's not make off track comments that simply aren't true.

The OP should be aware that Bethel is building a police station within the school campus and also looking to spend 80 million to improve the schools.....taxes are going to much higher in the coming years

High taxes are anything over a 40 mill rate.

Depends on the town. Bridgeports and New Havens of the world need higher mills due to lower property values. The opposite way for the Greenwichs and New Canaan of the worlds. Any nice smaller suburban town not in those categories with a mill over 30 is an embarrassment and disgrace.

Nonsense. Just because mom and dad had a bigger budget for a house doesn't mean they're going to blow anyone away. Typical/average is just that - typical/average.

Living within budget and means should be first and foremost. Diff between those schools is not worth stretching for and living with financial stress. Like I said earlier, its name brand recognition, and someone mentioned a further south location also, that's it. It does have a much prettier downtown though, I'll give it that.
