In summary, tax revenues are up 74% since 2000 while our population has only added 4.98%. Inflation over the same period was only 30%.Where does it all go???? We don't need tolls, we need to encourage new businesses and residents to come here and not give them another strike against CT. You want to fix the budget... force teachers (and other state workers on a full DB plan) to put their contractually annual step up entirely towards their pensions. Retire at 65 to collect a pension otherwise receive a lump sump of what you and the district have contributed plus market returns on that sum. It's really that easy. Otherwise collect 100% taxes on income and put $50 tolls on the borders. It still won't be enough. Period. Full stop.
You sure the fact that you drive over the state border daily has nothing to do with your anti-tolls stance?

If it's not on I-84, Merritt, AND I-95, then NO. Otherwise yes.

If its just on I-95 then NO, people will congest the Merritt and I-84 and just use I-287 to bypass

So how should I vote? Yes/No?

I'd go with yes... because they wouldn't just put them in on 95..

I take the train 4 or 5 days a week. Nothing to see here. Why not talk about the elephant in the room (i.e., malfeasance)

Also if we are trying to deter/grab revenues from the passers-through, tolls should be placed in the middle of the state. Far too easy to circumvent border tolls.

That's next to impossible. We get billions of dollars from our income tax revenue. With the amount of money we owe, it's not possible and out of question.

I said yes but ONLY if CT residents are exempt. Out of state and commercial trucks will pay $6. Hopefully this will tackle the mess with CT residents obtaining out of state plates to dodge the higher taxes. I don't know the percentage but probably a quarter of all plates on the highway are out of state and with population growth in MA, NJ, and other northeastern states, our traffic issues will only get worse.

Still CT managed to do well without income tax. With tax on marijuana, toll taxes, and increase in sales tax should be sufficient enough to fill the gap.

The income tax revenue makes up for roughly half of the states $19-$20 billion dollar budget. With the tax on marijuana, sales tax increase, and tolls, it wouldn't even be close to the money needed to sustain the budget from worsening.

Colorados marijuana revenue was around a billion last year, and NJ tolls were roughly a quarter of a billion. CT wouldn't make the amount of money that Colorado and NJ made on these forms of taxes since we don't have the proper ingredients.

All in all, you're looking at 10-20% of the income tax being covered by just those 3 things.
