I did dinner and a show last night down in the city and drove back around 1 am. Driving back, once I hit the Merritt, probably more than half the cars on the road didn't dim their high beams... from the Greenwich line all the way to Orange. It was unbelievable. This included cars I would pass on my side...I started getting annoyed and flashed people who refused to dim, but they didn't care..

Anyone else notice this? It was really annoying and amazing how many drivers did this...

I agree. It is not just the merritt, its also on local roads that there are alot of drivers who use their high beams (when it is not really necessary) and they do blind me sometimes . Especially on route 7, route 106 and the lights can be blinding.

Yep.....every morning on the Merritt......I have no idea why people do this. Even worse are the morning contractor pick up trucks with really bright lights on and fog lights on too at the same time.......lit up like a stadium. Very annoying......

bright and people think they are high beams but on certain high-end cars it is a super brite bulb and although it seems as if the brights are on but they aren't. So might be a little of both???

No... Low beams are on the outside edge of the light housing, and high beams are on the inside edge.... it's not rocket science when you have two insanely bright lights on the inside edge of the headlights... it means they are high beams. I worked on cars for years during high school and college...

I drive it south from Middletown in the am and it is very annoying. Surprisingly, I believe the CT driver's manual does not discourage using high beams often.

I drive at night all the time especially on Interstate 84 east of Hartford where parts of the highway don't have roadway lighting and I almost never see high beams. I don't know why it would only occur on the Merritt when it's nearly as dark as 84 at night.

Funny this thread popped up - I was just discussing this exact issue in the Merritt parkway with coworkers last week. It's a huge problem (seen to a lesser extent on 95).

What it boils down to is inconsiderate and clueless drivers. Really - I bet 75% of them have no idea their high beams are on. People just don't care enough about anyone else.

Not something they teach in Drivers Ed. Some just don't know about the respect to shut them. Some just don't care. Some just are blind themselves.

Doesn't matter you flash your lights, they aren't mind readers so stop flashing them. Pointless.
