Default Commuting from Oxford to Hartford

My husband just got a new job working in hartford. We live in Oxford. I was just wondering how bad he should anticipate the traffic to be- taking Route 8 North to 84 east and getting off at exit 50. and then of course on the way home would be 84 west to 8 south.

Oxford is over 40 miles from Hartford, so you could anticipate it taking at least 45 minutes without traffic. Your husband will however hit traffic during rush hour on I-84 east of Waterbury and then more traffic as he gets into Hartford. I would add at least 30 minutes for that. This of course depends on when he needs to be at work and where his job would be located. If it is west of downtown Hartford, there may be less traffic to face, if it is in downtown then there will be more. I hope this helps, Jay

It sounds like your husband will be getting on Route 8 from Route 42. I would suggest that he take Route 68 (Union City/Prospect exit) to Route 70 to Marion Road in Cheshire. Marion Road will get him to back onto I-84 at Exit 28 in Southington. I-84 through Waterbury can be unpredictable.

The reverse is much more advisable for returning home. Take Exit 28 (Route 322) to Marion Road to Route 70 East to Route 68 West.

In any event, he is looking at a minimum of one hour depending on the location in Oxford and the time of the morning commute.

ok so basically he should plan for about an hour and 15 minutes or so due to traffic. if he has flexibility as to when he can be in for - do you suggest he leave at 7 getting into hartford around 8?? or 6:30 getting into hartford around 7:30 or leave at 7:30/7:45 getting into hartford around 8:30 or 8:45... or will it not really make any difference?

Probably the earlier he leaves would be best. That way he may miss some of the worst traffic. JMHO Jay

Wife works in Bristol and I work in Danbury. Going to Hartford I would have to say take Route 8 to I-84. Youll hit less traffic on 8 but 84 is not all peaches either.
