I worked in the restaurant business for about 10 years and chefs or waitstaff will mess with your food if you're being a jerk. I never did it, because I wouldn't want someone to do it to me.

In my experience waitstaff are far more likely to mess with food or drinks so I would be careful about being a wiseguy to the waitstaff.
