The median income for these areas says differently:

Hartford-West Hartford-East Hartford Connecticut metro area - $72,275
Buffalo-Niagara Falls New York metro area - $51,772
Cleveland-Elyria-Mentor Ohio metro area - $51,049

Hartford is not cheap by Midwest standards but it is not bad by East Coast standards. Jay

Rental housing stock price versus quality level is kind-a high. There isn't much first class newer construction professional rental stock in the metro area so it's pretty expensive. It's more like Boston than DC where there is a ton of inventory of newer construction with high ceilings, glass, and garage parking under.

Monthly payment for 20% down 30 year fixed mortgage, taxes, and insurance in metro Hartford is cheap relative to Boston or New York. $2K to $2.5K/month buys far more house than Boston, NYC tri state, or DC.

accurate post

"Giving away" is spot on. We are making it easy for other states to raid corps now here.

I'm guessing that even though Aetna is keeping 6000 employees at their Hartford campus, they eventually will siphon off jobs little by little to other locations. By not moving them now their minimizing the blow of the company headquarters move to NYC. It's only a matter of time folks. To think otherwise is foolish, and unrealistic.

That is why job growth should be viewed as a requirement. To offset job losses. And growth at DCs paying say $17 an hour is not sufficient to offset job losses at or above Ct median income levels. We need significant high quality job growth, too.

That did not happen with Travelers. No reason it will happen with Aetna. Jay

The CEO of Aetna already gave a warning that it will happen if CT doesn't get its act together.

From: Aetna's headquarters leaving CT to move to NYC - WFSB 3 Connecticut

Fasano said both Aetna and GE had*"not been silent on their concerns."*
"In 2015, when huge tax increases were on the table, Aetna made it clear they saw that our state was ‘in danger of damaging its economic future by failing to address its budget obligation in a responsible way.’ They also said ‘such an action will result in Aetna looking to reconsider the viability of continuing major operations in the state.’* Unless we take measures to move Connecticut in a new direction, job creators like Aetna will continue to be faced with questions of whether it makes sense to continue growing in our state. Today they are moving their headquarters, but if nothing changes could more moves be in store? We cannot dismiss their move or comments as inconsequential. We have to recognize that now is the time for a significant shift in policy to better our state for all people, businesses and communities."

Bob: Ct has only gotten run worse since 2015. We need to realize corps are not hostages. We must earn their presence, it is not a right, but a privilege.

AETNA's press release was also not a long-term guarantee to Ct. Not saying they are gone, but our state's actions will determine that.

Time to get our heads out of the sand.

5 years ago, those on the left would laugh if anyone suggested both GE And AETNA would move their hqs. It happened.

Yeah that's Travelers.... Totally different company. I hope I'm wrong Jay, but if I was betting man I would bet Aetna is eventually gonna pull out of CT completely.
