The more we talked about it, Newtown's 'downtown' area is really just some old houses with a deli, flagpole and a realtor so that isn't that big of a deal when looking for little town.

I am going to be working probably in Stamford, Norwalk area for an Investment Bank / Private Equity so I realize I have a 1 hour drive ahead of me every morning, but that is better then the 1.5 hour train cram in followed by the nyc subway which just drains the life out of you.

my question is, why choose Newtown, Brookfield or New Fairfield over the other? Brookfield seems a bit further away and would add 10 minutes to the commute, but that isn't bad. And the cost of houses in Brookfield are very low. And you get access to the beach as well (the water is probably not really safe due to the mercury levels, etc...).

Any thoughts on which to choose?

Thank You!

Hi there,

Sorry I didn't answer the questions about the commute that I posted earlier, we were on vacation for a week. My husband commutes to brewster ny from Newtown (you can commute from bethel but it was a MUCH longer commute from there) as far as price if you live in newtown you have to buy a parking permit to park in the town of brewster which costs $135 every 3 months and then I think its $350 for a monthly ticket from brewster to nyc (dont quote me EXACTLY on the monthly pass but its around that) My husband found that he would rather pay the higher price to commute from Brewster rather then it be cheaper and longer from Bethel but thats just him.. Everyones different. Hope that answered eveyones questions??!!

oh and i forgot it is about an hour and a half train ride and then with no traffic on the way home from brewster its 20 minutes to drive. The trains leave more often from brewster rather then bethel also

Going from Newtown/Sandy Hook area to brewster looks to be about a 30 minute drive.

Then figure 10 minutes to park/get to train.

Then 75 minute average train ride.

So door to door to Grand Central is

115 minutes, fortunately I work a block from GC so it would be 2 hours for me, my wife works downtown, so that would be another 20 or so.

Not Horrible ,but doable until we find jobs in Danbury/Norwalk/Stamford.

It just seems that every job is in NYC but we HATE NYC :-/

It's only really about 20 minutes to go from Sandy Hook to Brewster if that makes any difference. There are also jobs in White Plainsand Somers,NY. In addition, some people do commute to Stratford, Branford or New Haven.

20 minutes, that is sweeet. I am so used to a 20 mile drive being 1.5 times longer at 60mph due to traffic!

My main issue with jobs is going to be finding one... I am in Financial Services but trying to find a job that matches my NYC income hasn't been easy... What good companies are in Stratford, Branford? I am at the point where I just will stop doing FS if I have to lol. I am just sick of working insane hours for 150k

Being in Sandy Hook, you can even work in Hartford or Meriden. Hartford would be about an hour (90 mins with traffic), but many people make this commute daily. It would be a lot shorter than Manhattan.

Hmm, I didn't think of Hartford. Seemed so far away :-)

I need to find a good Finance/Technology recruiter... Or see if my job would let me work in stamford...

Siktrosky aircraft is in Stratford, just off of the Merrit Parkaway. I don't know any spefific names for companies in Branford, but my dad did work in Branford a few years ago.
