Did you ever check out Southbury? It is the town right after Newtown only five minutes away. We have excellent schools and an adorable shopping green plus other shopping areas. Get off at exit 14 and make a right through town. If you travel up this main road (main st. South) you will pass several shopping areas and end at an intersection with even more shopping. The town is kept tasteful. We have MANY parks including Kettletown State Park, Settlers park which is on a beautiful meadow with a horse farm.
My husband works in NJ and Manhattan. We moved here from Westchester County 9 years ago and LOVE it and would never want to live anywhere else.

We rented in Brookfield while we were house shopping for 8 months. It is way to congested and crowded. Newtown is nice but it is too spread out and many parts of the town are not kept up well.

I cannot say enough about Southbury. Please feel free to ask any more questions about it if you are interested.

GOOD LUCK!!

My main issue with jobs is going to be finding one... I am in Financial Services but trying to find a job that matches my NYC income hasn't been easy... What good companies are in Stratford, Branford? I am at the point where I just will stop doing FS if I have to lol. I am just sick of working insane hours for 150k
jdhall, I'm sorry but that's just incorrect information. I have been doing this commute for 8 years. It's only 20 minutes if you do 85 the whole time and hit no traffic.

The housing in Southbury looks very very nice. I will definetely have to look there on my next visit.

Now if only I could get a job that is not in NYC...

Is stamford commutable from Southbury? Seems like it would be a solid 1:15 minute commute (without traffic?)

Since you're looking at Southbury now and considering a commute to Stamford, I'll go ahead and suggest Oxford and Monroe. They are both next to Newtown and south of Southbury and offer a more direct shot to Stamford via 111 to Route 15 (Merritt Parkway). Oxford is very centrally located and is a great choice for someone who isn't sure where they will be working. 80 minutes to NYC, 45 minutes to Stamford, 25 minutes to Bridgeport, New Haven, Waterbury and Danbury, and an hour from Hartford. Great schools and a nice rural, leafy quality of life. Monroe will be closer to Stamford and Bridgeport than Oxford, but further from Waterbury, New Haven, Danbury and Hartford.

Homes in Oxford and Monroe are comparable to the towns you're currently considering.
