Cool Atheist

4 years ago i became atheist for many reasons that I feel are very legitimate. Im not a bad or immoral person and I have a lot of pride in my belief.

So my question is, since they aren't at all down here, do you see people in CT as being tolerant of minority beliefs?

I just can resist throwing this out there. The reason im athiest is logic and thats not to say logic tells you any religion is wrong but it does tell you the following ill only give 3 hopefully non-controversial example bc i dont want this to blow up...
There is just as good of a chance that a god created this earth as that that world created itself
There is just as good of a chance that a god presides over this world as there is that a god created this world then dissapeared
there is just as good of a chance that we are reincarnated or go to heaven as there is that absolutely nothing happens when we die.

I'll let science tell me whats the truth. If there is a god who loved all his creation then why would that being allow good moralled intelligent people to think this way and then end up in "hell"???

Don't really need you to post why you are an atheist because I personally don't care. that said, I find that CT is pretty tolerant of differing religious beliefs. Most people here don't start a conversation with...hi my name is jon and i'm an athiest, catholic, jewish, etc so i'm not sure why that would be a concern.

The only thing most people in CT aren't tolerant of is intolerance.

Oh I don't know, I base my belief in God on "logic" and "reason". Basic math says something doesn't come from nothing. We and this universe came from "something".

As for science - there are plenty of Intelligent Design scientists that would make you cry with evidence supporting creation.

Don't think you are doing something "new" and being a "cool athiest" you have the "lock" on provocative thought in that regard by any means. In it's very root the term Atheist acknowledges the existance of God. Athiest = A Theos. Which means literally "without God". How can you be without something that does not exist?

How far shall we go into the "religous" debate? It's endless.

There is a God, you are not Him.

P.S. There is a religion section of this forum, have a go at it.

Since we moved to Galstonbury last August no one has asked me if I am religious and what religion I follow. It is true what our fellows said: they don't care. I wish they did, though. I do not need to spread my beliefs, but I need to share. People here seem so little interested in who I am, they never ask a question, be it about religion or job or dreams. With this said, I believe no one will bother you for being atheist. And maybe no one will bother about you having joined CT either....

It is vanity to think anybody really cares that much about you? I've lived in Arkansas for four years, and not once has someone inquired about my religion. How is someone's religion anybody's business.

I try to get along with ppl but dude ur an moderator cut straight up. I never said u were wrong and i think being atheist is far from whats "cool". I cant even be at my own house w/o ppl coming to my door telling me what to believe.

I dont care if there is a creator whatever but I want proof sorry for being a skeptic. If ur christain proove that ur god is the real god. I really dont care if u believe that way dont tell me im wrong directly if I dont tell you directly.

The debate is endless I can agree maybe it ends when I die and burn in hell, just as good of a person as anyone. Continue to bow before the almighty moderator cut u worship. Ill choose to hope that sure a cruel being doesnt exist and that religion is a cult and nothing more. I refuse to worship any other even if a cocky sob god does exist.

Remember folks-personal attacks are not allowed here. Lets keep on topic also- this is not a thread about religion, or God.
If you care to discuss religion there is a specific forum. The OP asked about the tolerance of religious beliefs (if any) in the state- not on the existence of God or the validity of any certain religion.

really well that isnt quite the bible belt either so maybe that would be just as good of a place for me. Around here the fact that atheists are the least trusted people in this country really shows. Its ridiculous im a fine human and just as good a citizen as anyone else but i refused a pamphlet offer by I believe a baptist and told him politely thats just not my belief and he insists ill be heading to the depths of hell...
