Welcome to Connecticut

Seymour is a nice working class town and is fairly affordable located in Valley area in New Haven County. The town is consider stable middle class it been improving over years. The schools in town are okay it right near state average crime in town is low. it's has become an affordable alternative to FFC towns like high priced Trumbull and Fairfield. Seymour close to North Fairfield County area like Danbury area about 30 min drive, 16-20 mins to lower fairfield County towns like Trumbull and 25 mins from Downtown New Haven.

Monroe is nice town in North Fairfield County area it kinda rural but suburban at same time it more expensie than Seymour. Monroe is consider middle/upper class town. Monroe have few shopping areas and schools are good in town. Monroe is 25 mins from bustling lower fairfield county

Seymour is an up and coming town while Monroe is an upper middle class town. Monroe will have much better schools.

What kind of community are you looking for and what is your price range? Also what do you expect to get for that price range?

We moved from lower Westchester to Monroe about 6 months ago. We absolutely love it here! Very family oriented. Seems like every second house have a swing set.. We have a 21 months old so schools were very important. Monroe has excellent schools. We live on a very quiet street but I can get to all shopping in a 5-10 minutes drive. (groceries, pet store, CVS, pediatrician, urgent care - if needed, etc). The library is about 5 minutes and we go to the free story time they offer. Beautiful library, has a whole big play area for kids. This was something new for us.. I also take her to the Trumbull library (10-15 min) for some activities. I dont know anything about Seymour so cant help there.

I agree with Kidyankee and Bpt111. Both are very nice towns but have slightly different characters. Only you can decide which fits you best. As Bpt111 said Oxford is another town you might want to consider as well. Add Southbury and Middlebury to that as well. All are nice communities for families. Jay

Seymour is more a working class town. Monroe is a bedroom community, but rural. Both great towns I feel. Monroe homes can be a bit more expensive. Another town to check out is Oxford.

OP- will you be working or are you a stay at home mom ?

If you are going to be working- where is your job ? If you will be working and need day care, then you need check out the proximity and number of day cares to possible homes.

My preference would be Monroe. However, everything is going to be more of a car drive. It all depends on your individual needs and circumstances.

Curious why you arrived at those. They are very different towns. Your money will go further in Seymour.

Shelton would be a nice in-between option.
