Yup, NC. Here are some pictures.

Walkway was wetter when it was raining. Or at least looked like it. Seems to have dried up a bit now

Here's a look down into the gauge

Cool look. You must be in some interesting spot there. That's 3 times now nothing else was around the area but you had precip. MicroClimate

Euro12z for Hartford.

Warm, Rain, Very Cold for 4 days then warm and rain comes in then very cold for 4 days. Wash, Rinse, Repeat.

Could it be another Flash freeze event next week? Near 50°F Wednesday morning to 10°F by evening

Paying back for the lack of early season frosts, . In October, my street had nothing with frost, areas closer to the coast had heavy frost for a few days before we finally got our first
Think it has to do with elevation. Cold air sinks and I'm at a fairly high location next to reservoir, so cold air sinks down there and we get slightly warmer air in calm & clear nights. At least that's my theory... maybe the small orographic lift effect also came through a bit? On today's event I see a radar signature so I don't think this one was orographic lift, but the snow events were definitely strange

Another update, 1/23. Bolded the most surprising part to me, even if you subtract the two days with microclimate snow it's still a big gap. Snowfall deficit is big, but we closed it a little...

More food for thoughts.. In the past 71 yrs Only 3 years had less snow for December and January than this year.

And are we really going into February with that Mid November snowstorm being the biggest snowfall of the season?? !??

Not a good sign for snow lovers as those 3 years ended up abysmal snow-wise. 1979-80 was famous for being the snowiest winter ever in Norfolk, VA and lots of snow in DC and in the South but almost nothing from NYC to Boston (HMM that sounds familiar to this winter). 1994-95 had one big snow in Feb. of about a foot but that was it. 2006-07 was also a low snow winter....(though there was a few inches in March).

I was curious and wondered because I see that 1973 isn't up there. In NYC, 1972-73 is the least snowy winter (2.8" total) and also has the record of latest before measurable snow fell (Jan. 29 that winter). But instead of pester you I learned from you and went into NOWdata for BDR and found that while just 1.5" fell in December 1972, but the Jan 29 snow in NYC that was 1" was 3.8" at BDR and they had 0.5" earlier in the month.

I believe they called for 41 or so today. I think it only reached 38. At least we're back above freezing now.

Sunset should be at 5:00 either Sunday or Monday.
(7:11 and 4:54 today.)
