The water looked like mid summer today, almost no where to drop an anchor, so many boats and people out on the islands it was incredible. Wish summer stayed this long every year!!

Actually Central Park's history of October 90s is very weird. It's only happened 5 times, and 4 of them occurred between 1938 and 1941 (the latest being October 17, 1938.....the other one was on October 2, 1927). It hasn't happened since. In fact, since 1944 it has only been 85 or over in October 3 times in NYC....Oct 8, 2007; Oct 19, 2016; and October 22, 1979.

This was the latest 90-degree day in NYC since 1970 (when they had 2 straight 90 degree days on tomorrow's and Tuesday's date). It broke what was the earliest date in the season not to ever have a 90+ degree day (record was 89 in 1959), which now is Sept 28. Ironically, yesterday's date is the latest in the year in NYC to have a high over 95, its record was 97 way back in 1895.

For some weird reason unlike other times of the year a lot of the heat records for late Sept. and Oct. are backloaded in the distant past.

Reading the tweet he's replying to...

**WHAT**???????
"Tropical storm strength winds and rain are headed toward coastal #Connecticut from #HurricaneMaria"
**WHAT**???????

They should not be posting anything if they dont know how to read those maps.

My Buffalo based sister says she heard on the news that today was the first 90 degree day there since June of 2016 (I looked that up, wasn't true, but it was their first (and probably only) 90+ of the year, last one was August 13, 2016)).

And their 3rd latest 90+ ever (I looked that one up too, other dates are Sept. 28, 1946 and Oct 2, 1927)

Actually, you're right. It's not common for 90s in October in NYC and it's been a loooong looong time. Before Global Warming was the cause of it. lol

This is what I was looking at that made me say they get 90s in October. Record Max Temp for each day of the month. I saw those 90s in October and thought they get them. I didn't look at the year or number of times. Sorry.

Note September 24th. Was a record yesterday for NYC for that day

I don't think we'll see 90 in October this year. Especially not the beginning part.

FYI .. Schools are closing early in parts of Ohio Valley due to heat

Hang in there guys.. Fall returns by end of week.

Last time we were below normal for the low temp was September 13th. Been a long 2 weeks and its slowed the leaf change process for sure.

I missed one date in Oct. that was 85 or over in Central Park because it wasn't a record high......October 1, 1986.

Schools sometimes close early for heat in Sept. and June in CT too, especially in Bridgeport.

I will enjoy this last burst of Summer with all of my heart. Then I am ok if we have autumn until April.

Like mid summer out there again. Wonder if all this heat will ruin our color process.
