They are everywhere now (which may actually hurt this new casino a little bit). An hour away from Bridgeport there's Empire City in Yonkers, which gets a lot of advertising and seems to be doing quite well. And a lot of people don't know about Resort World, which is right within the 5 boros in Queens near Aqueduct Raceway and JFK airport (granted, that wouldn't be much of a competitor to MGM Bridgeport as people in CT would need to both drive quite a ways and go over a toll bridge to get there). Surprisingly I don't hear much about them on the TV.....so I hope that MGM Bridgeport would be more like Empire City and less like Resort World (though I hear they are doing quite well too).

I don't think the 3rd tribe one is happening folks.

How?

Trump.

Trump holds grudges. It wouldn't surprise me if he is still angry at someone calling him "poopey head" in day care! He remembers the early 1990's when he tried to make a casino in CT. The tribes won. Now the tables are turned. I don't like him personally but from what I've read is this guy holds grudges and doesn't forget.

Why would Trump want the tribes to get a 3rd casino? Revenge is a dish best served cold.

By delaying this it might cause them to reopen the whole RFP all over again statewide. CT can't grant an exclusive license to two different tribes and allow them to collude and create a 3rd. They can still win but not together...pending Trump of course.

It's pretty dumb to try to fight MGM springfield as long as the CT connector is in place. Even if the 3rd casino was given a go the ridership and attendance from this would be significant. 12 trips a day compounded over the three or so years to get a casino in that's smaller. And keep in mind it's by Mass Mutual Center and Symphony hall.

Saturation might not really happen. The Taunton casino is also in a legal limbo but Mass also hasn't reopened the region C process. CT should reopen the process. The cancellation of Taunton means they could put one in south east Mass. Taunton, Brockton, Fall River and New Bedford come to mind. RI has slots but to compete that close and potentially on water front will be a draw (at least for the last two).

Interesting that Springfield, MA gets a billion-dollar MGM casino and Bridgeport--with ready access to the New York City, Long Island, and Fairfield/Westchester County markets--warrants only a [i]half[i]-billion dollar facility. Also, Springfield, as the host city, will receive payments of $25 million a year, and the proposal calls for Bridgeport to be paid only $8 million.

That is a very good point. Bridgeport would give them access to the largest and wealthiest metropolitan area in the country. If they really want it so bad, they should be "showing us the money". Jay

I live five minutes from Empire City and only visit to buy lottery tickets, when I get the urge for slot playing I drive to Mohegan Sun. I've come back to NY a winner on the dollar slots the last 5 out of 6 trips! The video lottery slots at Empire City are controlled by a Windows program, not a random number generator like the slots at a real casino. Video poker machines at Empire City have a pre-determined outcome, so it doesn't matter what poker strategy is used by the player. When I see players on the video poker machines I really feel sorry for them and have to control my urges to tell them to stop playing! Research the difference between a video lottery terminal and a slot random number generator, it's very interesting, too bad most of the players at Empire City probably don't know the difference, that's why Empire is doing well. You definitely don't want another Empire City in CT!

Forgot to mention, you want to play the video lottery machine with the million dollar jackpot at Empire? Be prepared to play $20 a spin! I can play a $3.00 a spin slot machine and Mohegan Sun to try for the same jackpot!

Saturation is nearly already there in the SE Mass/RI market. Twin River in Lincoln, RI is now a full fledged casino with table games. Just 20 miles away is the slots parlor Plainridge in Plainville, MA (borders RI) just a few miles south of Gillette Stadium. In addition to these, construction has started on a full fledged casino on Route 24 in Tiverton, RI on the MA state line across from Fall River. This casino, set to open in 2018, will have the same ownership as Twin River and will replace the Newport Grand slots parlor. Work on the Wynn Boston Casino continues in Everett (just north of Boston) with grand opening date of 2019 planned.

New England as a region is or will soon be over saturated with casinos. Only NH and VT are without them. There are presently seven casinos in New England with two more to open by 2019. ME has two (Bangor and Oxford), MA will soon have three, RI has two, and CT has two. In 2019, there will be NINE casinos in New England, a region with just some 14 million residents (not all of gambling age).

Kind of sad that we rely on casinos for economic growth.

The casinos are losing players that are aging out, but the same number of millennials aren't as interested in gambling, they prefer table games over slots, and mainly go to enjoy the amenities like the pool, clubs, etc. The casinos are trying to attract millennials by introducing video game type slots. Vegas has more non-gaming revenue than gaming.

Most millennials have not had the ability to enjoy gambling yet because of the economic downtown that happened back in 2008. Only now are they beginning to get decent paying jobs and doing the things money will allow them to do like start families, buy homes and spend on entertainment. Jay
