Where to live in Hartford???
I am a 26-year-old male relocating to Hartford from NYC. If you were a young single guy, where would you live and why?
As I am used to paying a high rent to live in the Greenwich Village area of Manhattan, money will not be a deal-breaker, but also am looking forward to cutting my living expenses. I have heard great things about the downtown area as well as the suburbs. I enjoy outdoors activities as well as good restuarants, bars, and live music.
Thanks in advance for any advice or comments, for I know very little about the Hartford area.

Hartford has an increasingly interesting night life, with many fine restaurants, and a fine retinue of visual and preforming arts. Downtown has the 36 story luxury tower- though high for Hartford cost wise- will be cheap for a New Yorker.
Of course Hartford will not be New York- but you certainly will not become bored with the good array of cultural offerings.
You might also consider West Hartford- a nice older more urban suburb of high quality, with fine dining, interesting apartments and a fantastic center.

I agree with Skytrekker. If you want some night life go with downtown or West Hartford. Jay

The Courant had an article this weekend regarding younger professionals living Downtown. Young Professionals Try City Living -- Courant.com I know a few people that live at Hartford 21 and they really enjoy it. There are several other rental options available with LV on the Park, Bushnell on the Park, etc. Condos at the Linden, Metropolitan, and Bushnell Tower are options if you're looking to buy.
West Hartford would also be a good choice, as mentioned by others. The Center and Blue Back Square offer good entertainment options.

Also, you might want to check out HYPE when you get here... HYPE - Hartford Young Professionals & Entrepreneurs It's a professional and social networking group geared towards young professionals and entrepreneurs. They have monthly social events, as well as informational seminars about various topics. It would be a good way to meet others in the area.

You may also want to check out the Riverfront Condo's right across from downtown Hartford on the East Hartford side. You are a short walk across the bridge into downtown. The condo tower is about 18 floors and overlooks the skyline and the river. You can rent these condos through private owners, check craigslist. You could actually buy a 2 bedroom remodeled for about 245k-300k which is a deal IMO.
