I am not sure that there is a large Indian community in Enfield. I am sure there are Indian families but I believe they are fewer than you would find in Manchester or West Hartford which have a greater number of them. These towns are about 25 miles from Enfield so you will need to decide if being near a larger Indian community is worth the long commute. That is something only you and your family can decide. Good luck. Jay

Where will you be working? As Jay said, there may be towns with larger Indian populations but if you're working in Enfield or Springfield, that makes more sense. Enfield isn't a bad town--there's still plenty of shopping and dining options and it's pretty affordable.

You can actually see those statistics right on this site.

Here is Enfield. There is not a big population that is foreign born so there is not even a breakdown.

Here is West Hartford. It looks like a pretty cool town as it is more diverse. You need to scroll down pretty far. India is #1 for place of foreign birth.

This is interesting but I am surprised that Manchester and West Hartford don't have higher percentages since both have very popular Indian grocery stores. In fact West Hartford has a couple of them. I was a bit surprised to see a Rocky Hill so high on the list even though I know there are a lot there. Just did not think there were that many. Good information. Jay

Neighboring Windsor Locks has a large Indian population, mostly in the areas surrounding the airport.

Did you notice something strange about that list. It goes number 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 9, 10. Number 6 Glastonbury and 8 West Haven are way down on the list.

The places (all cities) with the largest populations in the top 10 are Stamford, Danbury, Nowalk and West Hartford. All the other places in the top 10 are smaller towns. Even though some of the small towns have a larger percentage the actual Indian population in total are not that high.

The cities in bold have the most Asian Indians in total and West Hartford is the closest to the OP. That is why West Hartford has the Indian market.

If your job is north of Hartford, a decent apt/condo complex is "Rivers Bend" in Windsor off exit 38 from i-91. Lots of Indians living here. It also has a bus stop in front of the complex if that's important to you.

Its best to avoid driving thru Hartford while commuting if you can.

As others have mentioned, Enfield may not be the right fit but if you do want Enfield, stick to East of I-91.
