Hey All

So I hope you are all doing very well, and Happy Easter to all of you!!! Welcome to the third annual Connecticut Town Tournament!!! Most of you who have been here a while will likely remember the Town Tournament that I organized two years ago, and maybe the first one four years ago if you have been here for that long. Here is a link to both of them if you want to go back and see:

2014: Connecticut Town TOURNAMENT!!!! Who's Ready

2016: Connecticut TOWN TOURNAMENT II (2016)

I know many of you had a lot of fun with these tournaments, especially the 2016 one. The 2016 one was extremely epic, and many of you enjoyed it so much. I promised right after the end of the 2016 tournament, that I was going to do another one in 2018, so here it is!!! And the good thing that always makes all of these tournaments different is because towns can change a little in a matter of two years, and there are always new voters who will be voting, and different towns will face each other, so there is always something new to experience every tournament.

This Tournament will have pretty much the same format as the 2016 tournament. There are 2 pots, and the towns are seeded due to how far they went in the last two tournaments. Pot 1 will have the towns that performed better, and Pot 2 will have the towns that did not perform as well. Then the town fixtures are completely random and are done by a draw. For Round 1 it will always be a town from Pot 1 vs a town from Pot 2. For future rounds, towns will be seeded according to how many votes each town won by in the previous round. All towns that face each other will be completely random and determined by draw for every single round.

Procedures: For those of you who are new and / or might not remember the previous tournaments, let me explain the procedures. So there are many rounds. Out of 169 towns, two will face each other, and you will vote in each fixture regarding which town would be your favorite out of the two. It could be the town you would rather live in, rather vacation in, your choice. Pick the town you would overall like better. After the first round is done, all the towns that won will advance to the next round and be drawn to face each other. This procedure will be repeated until the final round when there is only two towns left, and one town wins the tournament. If you have not been to certain towns, you can either skip some fixtures, guess which town you might prefer based on what you have heard, or take advice from other people on these forums or other friends. Anybody can enter the tournament and vote at anytime. Suppose you see this when Round 2 already starts, you can vote even if you missed Round 1. Jumping in is not only allowed but is encouraged at any time during the tournament. The more voters we have the better. In 2016, we had a total of 31 voters. Hopefully we can beat that number with this tournament!!! Each round will have a deadline that I will post as soon as I post the fixtures for each round. Approximately, every round will last about one week. So we expect this tournament to be done sometime in Late May or Early June.

In the 2014 Tournament, I remember that quite a few people complained about fixtures not being fair. I am sorry about this, but in a tournament, you will never have fair fixtures, and you will see many fixtures with one town likely a clear favorite to win over another. That is just how the tournament works I'm afraid, and there is no way to get to a final round without having unfair fixtures.

The other thing is Connecticut has 169 towns. That means that one town will have to automatically advance to Round 2. Fairfield will be the town for this round that goes automatically to Round 2, because it won the 2016 Tournament. However as rounds go on, anytime we have an odd number of towns, the round that won by the most votes will automatically skip a round. However no town can skip more than one round in this tournament so if a town already skipped, it will go to the second town that won by most votes. If multiple towns won by same number of votes, it will be randomly drawn. Any fixture that ends an a tie will have both towns advance, but will not be allowed to draw each other again anytime in the tournament.

By the way the best way to vote is probably to quote my post of fixtures, and either bold or underline the town you vote for, but you can do it any way you feel comfortable with. I will be keeping track of everyone who has been voting. In the future rounds, I will likely PM you in the middle of the week if you have not voted in a certain round yet, but have in a previous round in order to send a reminder and make sure you do not forget to keep voting. Remember you can enter at anytime, and please do vote. We want as many voters as possible. Depending on the circumstances, I could extend the deadline if I feel a need to.

I believe I have said too much in this post, so I will stop here, and if you have any further questions, please feel free to ask me. I request that you ask here on the forums rather than sending me a PM, so everyone can see it.

I will have Round 1 posted on here within the next 25 minutes. I hope you are all excited and ready to vote. WHO IS EXCITED AND READY???

Here are Mine. Also if you are confused, here is a good example on how to vote.

Fixtures

Note: Fairfield will automatically advance to Round 2 as the winner in the last tournament.

Old Saybrook vs Middlefield

Salem vs Monroe

Cheshire vs Sprague

New Hartford vs Oxford

East Hartford vs New Haven

Canton vs Franklin

Brookfield vs Windsor Locks

Essex vs Andover

Chaplin vs Woodbridge

Cornwall vs Cromwell: LOL

Brooklyn vs Wallingford

Bozrah vs Southbury

North Stonington vs Old Lyme: Very Tough

Windham vs Newtown

Seymour vs Goshen

Darien vs Willington: Darien is probably the favorite, but I like the town of Willington, and I prefer the somewhat rural town to the ritzy upscale suburb of NYC.

Columbia vs Plainville

Burlington vs Middlebury

Colchester vs Enfield

North Branford vs Stonington

Litchfield vs Haddam

Montville vs Sherman

Westport vs Bristol

Winchester vs Norwalk:

Lyme vs Bridgewater

East Hampton vs Prospect

Glastonbury vs Bethlehem

Bloomfield vs Portland

New Milford vs Berlin

Danbury vs Vernon

Greenwich vs Bridgeport: Many of you will likely be surprised by this decision, but I am not a big fan of Greenwich at all. I feel like Greenwich and Darien are towns with some of the most rude and arrogant people you will find. Very ritzy people who look down on the middle class and poor. Parts of Bridgeport are a dump, but there are a few good areas like Black Rock.

Rocky Hill vs Windsor

Hamden vs Farmington

Trumbull vs West Haven

Suffield vs Pomfret

West Hartford vs Clinton: Also very tough. I'd take the coastal town over the Hartford suburb by a slim margin.

Union vs Roxbury

Madison vs Ashford

Groton vs Torrington

Plainfield vs Wethersfield: Tough as well.

Weston vs Plymouth

Norfolk vs Westbrook

Canaan vs Norwich

Marlborough vs Hartland: Another very tough fixture. Marlborough is an amazing rural town with many woods, but Hartland also has a great forest. However I will have to go with Marlborough because of its location, and also because I feel it is a little more upscale rural town.

Hampton vs Newington

New Fairfield vs Eastford

Harwinton vs Waterbury: Neither

South Windsor vs Hebron

Branford vs Waterford

Lisbon vs Chester

Scotland vs Putnam: Another tough one for me. I love the Quiet Corner in general, but Putnam is working class while Scotland is a really nice country town.

East Granby vs Guilford

Shelton vs Colebrook

Durham vs Stamford

Sterling vs Stratford

New London vs Lebanon

Tolland vs New Canaan

Salisbury vs Ellington

Granby vs Derby

Thompson vs Easton

Barkhamsted vs Voluntown

Mansfield vs Avon

Bolton vs Wolcott

Bethany vs Southington

Ridgefield vs Somers

Griswold vs Naugatuck

Sharon vs East Lyme

North Haven vs Coventry

Stafford vs Simsbury

Washington vs Deep River

Wilton vs Ledyard

Bethel vs East Windsor

Meriden vs Kent: LOL this is actually a repeat fixture from Round 1 in the 2016 Tournament!

Hartford vs Watertown

Beacon Falls vs Thomaston

East Haven vs Milford

Woodstock vs Redding

Orange vs Morris

Middletown vs North Canaan

Warren vs Preston

Killingly vs New Britain

Killingworth vs Manchester: Another very tough one.

Woodbury vs Ansonia: Neither really.

Canterbury vs East Haddam: Pretty close.
