Hello. I am starting to look for a home in New Milford and was curious to know about the reputation or quality of the many different parts of town. For example, are there major differences between the Candlewood Lake side of town vs. the neighborhood over by the hospital? Or near the green/Bridge street area? Things like resale value, ownership vs. rentals, quality of homes, etc. Are there any "bad areas of town"? We always love visiting New Milford but before we try and move our family there, we'd love any feedback from people who already have experience living there. Thanks so much!

The Candlewood area is pretty affluent. Home prices tend to be a little higher due to the easier commute to i84. There really are no "bad" areas per say but the seedy parts are usually isolated to certain condo complexes and the Grove St. area.

New Milford is an amazing town!

Very community oriented. Fire, EMS, and C.E.R.T. is big in town.

Lots of fairs and festival's going on. Great activities for children going on a lot.

Gyms are meh but think new owner bough The Club and Brookfield YMCA is close by.

They did the high school over about 10 yrs ago but has an Observatory that is cool.

Outside of that with has a great mix of box stores and local stores. With Route 7 expanding in to New Millford has eased commuting. The 4 Corners in Brookfield have been revamped.

Lots of great local restaurant's, ice cream, and great places to have a drink.

Lots of healthcare facilities in town and surrounding areas.

Close to Danbury and can catch a train in Danbury or Brewster to the City.

If into hiking lots of great trails and I consider it the Gateway town into the Berkshires.

Proximity to Danbury/Brookfield and being on near the lake for a increase home owner cost as it is a desirable area.

You really can't go wrong.

There’s a pretty wide variety of areas. Generally parts that border Brookfield and the lake are on the nicer side. Far north is beautiful, but more removed and rural. There’s some neighborhoods around the town center and hospital that are a little rough around the edges. And there are a few condo complexes in that area that are downright trashy. But for the most part it’s a nice town.

I would explore areas where you find homes, and I think it’ll become apparent quickly the character of the neighborhood.

Yeah New Milford is awesome. Wish I can help with specific spots within though. I think anyone can tell how an area is just by driving through it. Find a few properties you like then view via Google Street maps.

I dont think you can go wrong there. But heads up being close to the commercial areas

New Milford is the largest town in the state. The town center is cute, and there's a growing commercial corridor along Route 7. Due to the size, generally speaking, the further north you go into the town, the more affordable the prices are. The area near the town center is more older homes, whereas outside of the town center, there are more subdivisions.

When I was looking for a place to live I Zillow-browsed a few places in New Milford and there seemed to be a lot of condos that were strangely cheap. Always wondered what the catch was...I guess that's why.

The whole town seemed to be full of pretty good deals, though, relative to anything south or west of it.
