Hi all this is my first post.
I was wondering if you folks have any idea on how to deter, discourage, repel the drug addicts off my property without being too cruel.

A little context:
In Hartford I have a retail business and next to my establishment I own vacant land. On the land I find needles, broken glass bottles, crack pipes and other paraphernalia. There's also droppings of human feces. I'm sick of constantly having to clean up the mess. The other day I received a "Notice to Abate" from the city. **Sigh**. Another thing to take care of on my never ending list of things to do as a small business owner. The land is fenced off but that's not stopping them. You folks on the forum have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance
TheQuietGuy

Bear or rat traps? Electrical fence with barb wire? You need a security guard who will call police when someone is on your property. You can always hire an off duty police officer. Not cheap on any level.

Call the police and see what they suggest, just to make sure you’re within the bounds of the law. Make sure there’s nothing back there either, clear out trees and weeds. If you have a lot of crap and hoarding, you’ll never get rid of them.

There is nothing there. The piece of land is sandwiched between two residential houses. There is a large patch of poison ivy vegetation which I left to grow hoping it will deter them. But I guess smoking crack gives people immunity to the stuff.

Sell everything and move. The folks in charge of Hartford could care less about your issues. The dirtbags have the upper hand here and you can’t win.

Perhaps you can install fixed security spikes on the existing fence. Below is an example of such fitting I found on Google:

https://securitydirectuk.com/fixed-security-spike

Quote:
The robust spikes can be easily fitted to walls roofs or fencing. The Fixed Spike comes in 1.5 metre lengths and 110mm high. The Fixed Spike is extremely aggresive to prevent people getting over it to gain illegal access or to steal lead. The spikes are designed so as to prevent holding onto or putting a coat over them, being so sharp as it will go straight through it. It is fully legal if fitted as per our Risk Assessment and Method Statements.Fixed Spike is particularly suited to higher risk applications.

Barbed wire. Top and bottom of the fence. This stopped the traffic from a vacant lot behind one of our properties.

Put a fence up all around, and if you are allowed to, put barbed wire on top.

That should do it.

Oh I've figured that out my first year in Hartford. But you'd be surprise how anal other cities can get compared to Hartford. For now I'm thankful for what I have. But you're correct Hartford is corrupt.

or even a small but BIG barker might work and motion activated flood lights with the new wireless camera that alerts you on your phone so you can yell at them like you are inside.

Think it's called "The RING system"

Or sit out there in a beach chair drinking clearly armed, shotgun and pistol
