Will you have a car?

New Haven is a great city with a lot of good qualities, but the schools still struggle.

If I were you, I’d look at neighboring communities. Milford, Branford, Hamden should have modest rentals at your budget. I know Milford has a small, but decent Indian population.

As Stylo recommended, if you are interested in better performing schools, you would be better off living outside the City of New Haven. CCM is located on Long Wharf Drive so your Transit options are limited. You should consider using a car for transportation. Your budget will get you a modest two bedroom apartment in a suburban town. As Stylo noted Milford does have a number of Indian families and a pretty good Indian grocery store. Your budget there will not go as far as other towns though. I would recommend looking in Branford. It is a nice town with good schools and a number of nice apartments. Jay

Not sure how accurate or reliable Moderator cut: link removed, competitor site is, but it shows you Indian populations by town. Milford is #27 and Branford is #42. Orange, CT is another good town on the list at rank #31.

Another tool that people like is called GreatSchools. I personally take it with a grain of salt after hearing about them allegedly refusing to publish some negative reviews, but it seems good enough to gain insight about how good or bad the schools are.
