I don't think they need to charge such high tolls to CT residents. Instead they need to tax the out of staters who use our highways for free. MA does it. And somehow they get the toll money from the out of staters, maybe by an agreement with that state that their license will be revoked unless they pay up.

CT could have such an agreement with MA and NY. I hardly know of any state that doesn't have tolls. New Jersey? Last time I drove there all I did was pay tolls all the way. Maine has tolls on rte 95, MA has tolls on the Mass Pike. The people in the Boston area pay just to go to work but the OUT of staters pay more.

No tax on groceries though. That is rotten to the core. That even taxes really poor people who have to go to the store on a bus because they are too poor for a car.

Oh no! Perish the thought! Some would rather we just pay and shut up

Ok his first address was great. What he’s signaling since, not so much. He’s to the left of Malloy he wants to use government to control your life. Move south if you can. He has no interest in shrinking government, lowering cost of living, growing the middle class and entrepreneurship. Get out while you can.

Where? How much do you really think that will provide?

Do you still want to pay so that out of state drivers can drive through our state for free. How nice of you. I am not that nice. It is time to get them to pay their fair share just like we do when we drive on other state’s toll roads. Jay

I’m for tolls, mainly to stop out of staters and trucks from getting a free ride and ruining our roads. But I’m not keen on the plan to have 80+ of them.

We can easily cut hundreds of millions, by following private sector employment practices, such as stop backfilling retirees positions. use technology to reduce state headcount via natural opportunities as folks retire every year.

That will take years to impliment and technology requires a significant investment. It is doubtful technology will save that much. You also forget that the state has a contract with state employees union that runs until 2027. Despite what you and others think, you aren’t going to break those. If it was as easy as you say, the state would have done that a long time ago. Jay

If the contract mandates automatic backfills 100%, shame on state management. I am not talking firing people here. Automatic backfills, in a technology era = feather=-bedding.
