I grew up in Ct and lived there for 40 years and always went to the Jersey shore or RI beaches. Very rarely did we ever go to CT beaches.

Bad, if you're looking for sandy beaches and decent surf. Most of the CT coastline is along the Long Island Sound and therefore, is wave-challenged. You need to go towards Rhode Island for open water and real surf.

The beaches east of New Haven are nice- Hammonasset State Park in Madison is very nice, and Rocky Neck in Old Lyme/Niantic is pleasant. Ocean Beach in New London has a bit more surf then the aforementioned as LI Sound opens up into the more open Block Island Sound.

Rhode Island beaches will see the real Atlantic surf at its best.

Hammonasset is the best of the bunch.....

If you want really good beach and surf...go to Westerly and Watch Hill. So much better than anything in Long Island Sound.

It is hard to compare the beaches of Connecticut on Long Island Sound to the open ocean beaches of California and New Jersey. What is nice about the beaches is that they are not over developed or commercialized like other area. They tend to be quiet. Jay

Also, many of the Connecticut beaches are private town beaches. The public beaches are OK, but most people in the know drive that extra distance to Rhode Island.

beaches are rocky and it's a very short distance from the pavement to the water. i grew up on LI and my huband grew up near the Jersey Shore. they are not those kinds of beaches. but they are quiet and have nice views. we still take our "beach vacation" to ocean city, nj every summer.

I grew up in Milford and all of the beaches there are sandy, perhaps it depends on what beach you are talking about. Some beaches are also further from parking to water, e.g. Silver Sands beach in Milford.

Beaches are not comparable..apples to oranges
More like ripe apples to rotten oranges
