I would like to know how much you guys are willing to pay more in taxes to reopen the juvi prisons and staff them with employees. Everyone who has responded on this thread so far absolutely hates Govt and especially their employees, so I don't think you guys are willing to pay the increased taxes.

These facilities if reopened wont' be staffed by min wage workers with no benes. They are going to get the same sweet Govt benes that everyone here is jealous of.
Actually, people are usually VERY willing to pay taxes to lock up criminals. It's right up there at the top with roads and law enforcement, maybe the issue that people would put at the very top of what taxes should be spent on. The issue that led to the closing of the juvenile lockup was that it's morally more difficult to deal with the challenges of incarcerating violent young people. In plain English, people don't care as much when misbehaving adult inmates wind up being violently subdued and thrown into solitary. Juvenile inmates can behave just as badly, but it just doesn't sit right with citizens when juveniles are violently subdued and confined to solitary. In addition, the population that winds up in juvenile prison happens to be disproportionately Black and Hispanic, just like the population that winds up in adult prison. I don't think that the closing of the juvenile prison and the law keeping juvenile offenders out of adult court had to do with money as much as it had to do with the impossible challenge of confining and controlling violent young offenders in a manner that society deemed appropriate for minors.

It was corrupt and manipulative, at best.

To blame Republicans for this is, frankly, astonishing to me.
Well frankly to not see the weakness of the Republican Party and its impact on our state is astonishing to me. Jay

There is a weakness, sure, but we need to hold politicians accountable for their actions. In this case, it is Malloy. And it has zero to do with the Republican Party and everything to do with the manipulative Democratic agenda.

Maybe we can get back to the topic of vehicle thefts and juvenile accountability?

Please stop the bickering and return to the original thread which is about finally holding juveniles accountable after our previous, far-left administration failed to do this.

It's interesting that you don't seem to blame the Democrats for the bad things they do, but you blame the Republicans for failing to stop them.

This is off topic so rather than answering it here, I am responding to it over on the Connecticut’s Republican Party - Will it Change with the Times? Thread. Please return to the topic of the OP. JayCT, Moderator

A man died in Harford on Saturday when his vehicle was struck by speeding kids in a car they'd stolen.

Warning - the Courant has a porous paywall, but you can view a few articles for free each month.

Awful.

And for everyone here who thinks these “kids” are just joyriding in these stolen cars, hopefully this will show you they are not:

Two passengers — a 14-year-old girl and a 16-year-old boy — were removed from the stolen car. The boy had an ammunition clip for a high-capacity weapon, which are now illegal in Connecticut, Lt. Paul Cicero said, and the clip had bullets in it.

And more catch and release.

https://we-ha.com/west-hartford-poli...1uE2aWFsbnnshY

15 yr old and his companions, who haven't been caught yet, entered an unlocked home while people were home and awake, took car keys, and ran - but the cops got there before they could get away, and a K-9 got one of the teens. 15 yrs old, had previously been arrested with GPS and car keys that didn't belong to him.

Released to his parent, same as before, and out at night committing crimes, same as before.

According to our current laws, he has at least three more solid years of crime spree without consequences (unless, I guess, he kills someone, which is entirely possible when he's speeding away in a stolen car) until he finally gets locked up. Right now, there's just nowhere to put him.

Thank you, Malloy.
