And my former boss (who is Hispanic) when I worked in the Bridgeport school system who has a 3 year old recently moved from Bridgeport to Trumbull because of the schools and because it has "a little of everyone" there.
Trumbull is more diverse in the schools than the town because we take kids from Bridgeport and Stratford into our High School. I happen to be proud of that. I do think the diversity in the schools is about 22% to 25% at any given time.

Bingo. It was not a key point on the OP's wish list.

OP if you're looking for lively with good schools Milford and Fairfield are probably your best choices. Both are phenomenal towns with great downtowns and other shopping/culture sections. Both are on the Sound with well staffed local school systems.

As others have mentioned too, Trumbull and lower Easton might fit well into your needs. It should be said that CT towns are small area wise compared to most of the other parts of the country so a Trumbull to Fairfield to (even) Greenwich to Black Rock day isn't completely out of the ordinary. Basically only comes down to the type of area you are looking for that you think best matches your desired lifestyle. Just because you live in one town does not mean that other town amenities like downtowns are super far to drive to.

Best of luck, hope you enjoy all that CT has to offer!

There's an area of Fairfield called Stratfield that is just beautiful and borders Bridgeport. It is less expensive than many areas of FF, but has definitely been "discovered" over the past 5 years or so (do a search on the NYT for Stratfield). I think Fairfield is fantastic for kids, particularly if you're looking for a more cosmopolitan vibe and want a reasonable commute. A shorter commute will matter in the long run more than you might even realize.

By the way, I really like St. Vincent's hospital. Their ER is clean, they take patients quickly, and I had to have an emergency appendectomy there with a surgeon who I didn't choose but who was fantastic (and has sadly since retired).

What is your budget and what do expect for it? Are good schools important? Will you have a car? What type of area, rural, suburban or urban do you want? Without this information it is hard to make a specific recommendation.

That said Fairfield is a beautiful town immediately adjacent to Bridgeport. It has excellent schools, great shopping and entertainment options and a wide range of housing options. It is however a bit pricey so it may not be in your budget. Still t is a wonderful place to live. Good luck, Jay
