Hello

I'm new to this board and I appreciate how helpful the members have been to others seeking advice on this forum.

My husband has taken a new job in Bristol and we are concerned about finding good schools in the area that have strong programs for autistic students. Our daughter would be starting 4th grade in the fall. My husband is willing to make whatever commute is necessary to ensure our daughter can get into the best programs possible.

Thank you.

My wife does a lot of work with these kids in the public school system and she only gives a thumbs up to farmington (public schools). She also said newington (public schools) does a good job. Also look into ACES in North Haven. Where ever you go, make sure you set up some time with whoever heads up special services for the town and discuss the program with them.

There are many nice towns in the area that would provide the services you need. The nicest are the suburbs west of Hartford including West Hartford, Farmington (as Srib recommeded), Avon and Simsbury. These towns have excellent schools and a lot of beautiful neighborhoods. The links below will allow you to review the Strategic Profile of each town and school in the State. This should give you an idea of what is offered. Hope this helps, Jay

While many of these districts are great, many do not follow the intended curriculm for special education students. Farmington and Newington both do.
