Surprised I'm not reading anything here about it....supposedly national news. It seems a bunch of coaches thought the infield was too wet and thought lighting it on fire would dry it out......c'mon, you can't make this stuff up. Didn't anyone consider that pouring gasoline on the ground would first off, be a hazmat issue

Will cost an estimated $50,000 to fully repair. The actions of these few idiots will burden everyone else.

They're lucky no one was injured or killed. 25 gallons of gas is a lot!

There's two possibilities at play here: either there was significant amounts of alcohol involved or there was none. Both are concerning honestly.

I did see it on the national news. I can’t believe they did this. Now the coaches are on suspension. Jay

These coaches are old school. This was common practice decades ago. I remember it being done when I was coaching in New London in the late 1990's.

Same. I remember this being done successfully in New Canaan years ago. Actually, it’s done in many places still around the country and if done properly, it works. IMO, it’s still reckless.

I played baseball throughout the 80's and 90's and never heard of this practice. We used to put kitty litter down to soak up the moisture on the field. I don't doubt that it went on in places, but regardless, how anyone in 2019 could think this is a good idea is beyond me.

Well, now the three suspended coaches have been reinstated, guess the investigation is over and who started the blaze will forever be a mystery.....I knew Rudy wouldn't roll over on his own.
