Looking to move to Milford but seems I can only afford a mobile home, which is OK because I am done with mowing & yard work. I read the NY Times articles about Ryder Park being moved bec. of a shopping center, and that most people there are very old. Since I would be 55 yrs old when I move in 2 yrs, is this Ryder Park a good place for me? I would also have a freshman high school age child with me. (Moving north to get her a better education and for me the smell of salt water!)

What about property taxes, land lease costs, homeowner association fees, etc.? When I sell my small house here in GA I can probably buy outright a mobile, but want to know about the additional fees, the people, and also, more importantly, any future possible shutdown of the park.

Thank you so much!

Ryder park wasa moble home complex located right on Route 1 in Milofrd. This is a very busy shopping area but the park preceeded the shopping centers. It got to the point where the land became so valuable that a developer offered a small fortune to the owners to move. Most got brand new homes in a much quieter area, though it is located near the train tracks. I do not know the answers to your other questions but hopefully someone else here will. Jay

I'd suggest a condo close to the shoreline, entry level condos start at low 200s. Not sure on the additional costs, common fees. I would call a few real estate agents and inquire.

There are mobile home parks in other parts of the state- in the town of Vernon where I live there are two- both are for 55 and over. Fees for A month are about $300-but in many cases this includes water & heat.
