Dear connkid
I was born there and it's BS to lay out a judgment that's portrayed as an observation by you.
I grew up in suburbs of LA and I progressively knew where I could be and be safe.
I have a solid friendship with people as far back as high school there and work all over the state and people are still good and honest everywhere you go and there are also without a doubt dark evil in everyone's backyard too, consider the Connecticut River Valley Serial Killer that was never solved.
Snobbery is famous in CT and CA too, so what
Plastic people are everywhere and so are solid people too.
Life's to short to waist even a look on what's negative around you.

In response to Goldwing's comments, I'm not casting an unrealistic (or negative) view on California, just an objective one. I've found in my years living out here, that once you express a contrary point of view regarding California, people here take themselves so seriously, becoming quite defensive, that they actually think that the state is the next best thing to sliced bread! I find this to be mostly with individuals who have never ventured any farther than either Reno or Las Vegas, NV! It's quite easy to have this mindset, when one doesn't travel, or hasn't been exposed to any other areas. It's quite myopic, to say the least, breeding the average Californian's stereotype of other states or regions of America, when in-fact they've never been any farther than their own city or town.

The view of a few are not the view of the masses.
My brother at 18 left CA for OR and could not wait to leave because he loved the forest areas more than concrete..
My self, I stayed, people are similar to food, some of it you dislike and some you like.
Your more in your comment showing your limited view the people of CA and need more contact with ones to be proud of.
And some times the ones that are the most obnoxious are the one's pertaining to be native.

In response to Goldwing's last comment: I'm not quite sure about the limited (my) view portion of your statement, regarding the people of CA. I'm not 'bashing' CA; I'm offering an objective overview. Each individual has a different view/opinion on which area or region they feel most comfortable living-in. It would be the same if you took a native New Yorker out of mid-town Manhattan or any of the NY buroughs, and placed them in the midwest or the northwest sections of the country. It would be a culture shock, for the most part, as they would be out of their element, as they are used to the hustle and bustle and amenities that were offered to them in NYC.
My 'limited view' you spoke about is erroneous, as I have been very fortunate to have been born, raised, and travelled in England, but also on the continent, as well. I have also travelled extensively through-out Canada, Mexico and forty-eight of the US states.

Thanks for your comments. I've lived in CA since 1989 and I have just over the past year become quite intrigued with the state of CT. CA is not for everyone, that's for sure.
Good luck!
