Default How much to heat a vacant furnished home during the winter (snowbird)

How much should it cost to heat a cape cod 3 bedroom 2 floor house in the winter (Nov-March) when we have the temp at 55 degrees? We are getting quarterly bills for $600. Is this reasonable? Is oil $3.50 a gallon? Please someone help me with the math and logistics!

We have a 3bd, 2 bath home as well and our bills have been paying 600 a MONTH keeping it in the high 60's BUT we have electric heat.
Sooo.. since oil is a tad cheaper then electric i would say 600 quarterly is doing pretty good!

55 may be in fact too low- during occasional cold spells of sub arctic origin- pipes may freeze at that level. 60 degrees is safer-and the extra money it may cost may save you from the disaster of frozen pipes and water damage.

Yes. Remember that even though you may be keeping the air within the living space at 55 degrees, the pipes in the walls may be exposed to lower temps.

In the winter we kept our thermostat set around 62 during the day, and 58 at night, and our oil was costing us about $325.00- $350 a month during the coldest months. Oil was about $3.50 a gallon at our last fill up.
