I live in NYC and commute to Long Island 2 or 3 days a week. I am thinking of moving to Black Rock area and doing the commute by ferry. Would it be better to try and park in Bridgeport near ferry or take train from Fairfield Metro (and park there) to get to Bridgeport. How is the parking at Fairfield Metro? I hear there's a long wait for a permit but is it possible to find spaces without one?

I assume you understand the possible issues there could be commuting to Long Island by ferry since you are only asking about the commute on the Connecticut side of the trip.

You are correct that there is a wait for spaces at Fairfield Metro but that day parking is usually available if there early enough. Downtown Bridgeport does have some private parking near the ferry. You might check to see if any of them have availability. Jay

Yes, I am familiar with the Long Island side. Thank you for the response!

I'm from MA but had to go to Javits yesterday. I arrived at Fairfield Metro around 8 AM and there were hundreds of day spots available.

I’d love to have you as a neighbor in the Rock but I’m a bit confused about this plan. Wouldn’t it make more sense to live on LI?

I’ve never had a problem parking at Ffld Metro

It would make more sense to live on Long Island but apartments there seem horribly overpriced. And the ones with reasonable rents turn out to be refurbished basements with a hotplate for a kitchen. I'm looking to rent, not buy. And--I don't have to go out there in summer so commuting is part of year. Also, I'm originally from CT and just like the people there more! The best solution would be to get a new job but it's not easy.

What you might save on apartments in Bridgeport you will absolutely spend on commuting. Thatís before taking into account the stress of a long commute.

And generally in CT, if itís cheap, itís cheap for a reason. Take the nicest neighborhood in Long Islandís most crime ridden town. Thatís Black Rock, and thatís why itís considered somewhat affordable for the region.

I'm going to agree... please don't look at Black Rock. It certainly does not have a cute main drag, with no local shops and restaurants, no stately homes that you can appreciate walking around to a totally not great Harborview Market, or the overall sense of a quaint seaside old town with big-city modern sensibilities. It's awfullllll.

Sarcasm is hard to read. In case the OP does not get it, Beeker is being sarcastic. Jay

Extremely sarcastic. It's a great area and my parent's have loved being there for a few years now, as I did when I was there for a few years.
