Counseling or Teaching in CT? Moving from L.I.?
Im a NYC guidance counselor. I commute 3 - 4 hrs a day(r/t) from Long Island.
FH just found out he can relocate and keep his NY salary. We are hoping to find an area in CT that would'nt take us more than an hour to drive to the Bridgeport Ferry and are looking for a place where we would have at least .25 of an acre.
Any suggestions? I also have my teaching license as well as counseling. I wouldn't want to commute again for more than an hour each way like I do down here.
Where should I apply?
Where should we look for real estate?
Thanks all
Any advice or suggestions is GREATLY APPRECIATED!

I am a little confused by this post but then again it is Monday morning. I guess your question is that you would like to find a place on 0.25 acres or more that is less than an hour from Bridgeport. Depending on your price range and likes and dislikes, that should be easy. You should be able to find a place like that within 15 minutes of Bridgeport. Some of these places may be pricey but compared to LI, maybe not. I would suggest checking out Fairfield and Trumbull. They are very nice suburban communities with a lot of nice neighborhoods. They also have excellent schools and there is a wide range of housing options. These towns have a lot of shopping restaurant and entertainment options as well. Another less expensive town to check out would be Stratford. The schools are good and there is a lot to do but it is less priceier than Fairfield or Trumbull. If you give us a little more information, we can help you further. Jay

I would recommend Monroe, which is less than a half hour from the Bridgeport ferry. Most of the homes in Monroe are on a minimum of one acre. It's a wonderful family-oriented town with great schools and beautiful parks. What is your budget? That will help to narrow down your choices.

I am still confused too.
Where will your husband be working, in NYC or in CT? Will he be taking the ferry to work? In other words, do you need to be near Bridgeport for your daily life or just for the opporunity to visit LI whenever you can?
Also what is your price range because that can help determine where you can get an affordable .25 acres.
I am a transplant from LI as well....never regretted it for a moment

My FH will be working from home! So, we would only need to get to LI for the occasional weekend family get together. We were hoping to spend less than 300 if its possible. Is it?

The towns Jay mentioned are great may be tough at that price, except for maybe Stratford.
I would suggest areas a little closer to New Haven like Hamden or North Haven. Those are about 25 mins to the ferry and I think you'll get more bang for your buck. Those areas have a nice mix of bigger properties and development so you wouldn't lose the LI-ness that you are accustomed to.

To find a home on .25 acres under 300k you will definitely have to move up the line around New Haven.
