Since we are talking about it, I was talking to my doctor the other day about Italian restaurants here. He is from Providence and says he has yet to find any Italian restaurant here as good as there. I will be seeing him at a social event in a week so I am wondering if anyone has a suggestion. He said he would drive anywhere in state. Jay

He's probably right. Providence may even be better than Boston wrt Italian restaurants.

I really like Tarantinos in Westport.

Federal Hill is impressive. Has he tried the New Haven area? IMO that’s where the best Italian in the state is.

I’d suggest he go to New Haven. Providence’s Italian certainly gives New Haven a run for its money. Pizza, though? New Haven.

Agree, great Italian in Providence.

I love La Tavola in Waterbury, and think it is worth the drive from the Hartford area.

I haven’t been to Roma in Oakville in years, but it always used to be excellent.

My favorite always used to be Armellino’s in Milford but sadly they closed.. wish they’d reopen somewhere ..

Anyone know what would be close comparison?

Wife and I frequent Biagio's and like it a lot but they're a hit or miss. When they're "on," it's effin' amazing. When they're "off," eh.

Osteria Romana in Norwalk is a sleeper hit. It's ran by these brothers who moved from Rome. Don't let their strip mall location fool you. The interior is nice, the staff is friendly, and the food is awesome. They have a 2nd location with the same name in Monroe but I've yet to try it.

Well yes regarding Biagio's . But that is what makes fine dining interesting and adventurous. If you want complete consistency 100 % of the time , there is always McDonald's and Burger King.

The more complex the food is, the more challenging it becomes to prepare. Even the best fail from time to time.

This thread inspired me to go back to L’Orcio. Phenomenal food all around. Their pasta dishes are fantastic, compare with some food I’ve had in Italy.

It was our first time on the patio which has a really great atmosphere.
