There are a few tennis clubs in the Farmington Valley...

Farmington Farms Tennis Club 94 Brickyard Road, Farmington 860-677-2489
Farmington Valley Racquet Club 241 Hopmeadow Road, Weatogue 860-658-5800
Simsbury Tennis House 530 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury 860-651-7900

Weatogue is a section of Simsbury, if you're curious.

Both Avon and Simsbury have high school tennis teams...

Pro-creation maybe. But a vasectomy (diversion of semen by severing the vas deferens) or tubal ligation (blocking eggs' travel from ovaries through fallopian tubes) are pre-conception and don't enter into the argument about pro-life.

there are specialists for those procedures (urologists and the like). Im pretty sure folks looking to get those things done go to specialist's offices rather than hospitals anyway. I know there is a urologist in Bloomfield for example.

Besides, neither of those operations have anything to do with helping someone in need. They are personal choices and you could assuredly live (be fruitful and multiply!) without such procedures.

So unless you need to get spayed or neutered (lol) go to St. Francis.

Another question... when we were there on a Sunday it seemed pretty dead. Is that pretty typical of a Sunday?

Well, those areas are, to me, very rural, so it probably would be quiet on a Sunday. With two active teens, maybe West Hartford might have more to offer your family-there are some nice large estate-type places with land out near the Avon line, like Mountain Rd area. It'd be a faster commute to Hartford Hospital, also (that is where the job is, correct? I wasn't sure).

There is no major league sports here, and no imminent plans for any, but there is good minor-league baseball in New Britain and hockey in Hartford-both close to West Hartford.

I mean, Avon and Simsbury are pretty, it's just that to me, they are far out-but I'm a city girl so I'm biased. Lots of folks love it and don't mind the driving.

I have been off the boards for a few days so I will comment on a few things mentioned over the past couple of days:

To the OP, we have friends that moved from Tampa to Glastonbury and just moved back to Tampa because of job promotions. They loved this area because of the emphasis on families and schools. There are a lot of activities for kids and the schools are excellent. They found that the quality of the public schools exceeded what they found in private schools in the Tampa area (and they lived in an upscale area). They did not care for the weather changes though and found it difficult to go to professional sport games in New York or Boston (it is far and pricey), but they did enjoy going to the minor sports offered here which are close and affordable.

As for hospitals, my wife job allows her to independently see care given at each of the hospitals in the area. By far she says the care at Hartford Hospital is the best. St. Francis would be second. I know several doctors from outside the region who agree with this as well.

Hope this helps, Jay

Thank you for your info....I am a Colorado native and I actually miss the change in seasons as well as the sweater weather. I know the schools are much less desirable in Tampa. My kids attend some of the best schools here and they still leave me wanting!! That is a major plus to moving. I am glad to hear that Hartford Hospital is good. That is where my husband would be working.

I guess we could live without our professional sports. What about college sports are there any?

UConn's football team is excellent as well and is rapidly gaining national attention.

Since your husband is working at Hartford Hospital, I would recommend you consider living in Glastonbury. It is a great upscale suburb with much of the things you are looking for. Many doctors at Hartford Hospital live here. There are many beautiful neighborhoods with fine homes in your price range and the schools are excellent. Glastonbury is more convenient to highways than the Farmington Valley towns of Avon and Simsbury. Your husband's commute could be 15 minutes or less depending on where in town you live. Jay

Not sure if you said you have girls (Boys too I guess...) but we have THE international skating rink in Simsbury also. It has been home to skaters like:

Ekaterina Gordeeva
Viktor Petrenko
Oksana Baiul
Sasha Cohen

And many more well known skaters.

If you want to go 45 min South you have Yale too.
