dh asked the grocery stores if they could order a particular brand for him and the only one that did was Stop and Shop. When he went to buy it, the price was three times higher than back in MA. Of course, that's Stop and Shop where the prices are sky high anyway, but why such taxes and high prices? It wouldn't be such a bad place to live otherwise. /rant
That insanely high price is $175 on a single item.

You're right. I just looked it up. I always thought it was on something around $1000 for one clothing item. Well, I don't buy too many clothing items that cost $175 so I've probably hardly ever paid it anyway. Unless it's formal wear or a coat, expensive shoes, most people don't pay $175 for one thing. If they want to, they can, but it's not necessary. So, again I think MA law makes sense because for ordinary people who just buy what they need, there is no tax on clothing.

Funny you should say that. I looked at Bendryl in CVS the other day and it was nearly $8 for 24. In Stop & Shop it was $4 something. (wish I could find my receipt right now). I still can't believe it. S&S wasn't on sale either, regular price, same product.

When I worked in retail we always had special sales during tax free week.

I have a family member who lives in MA and they have tax free 3 days I think, but on just about everything. People are buying snow blowers like crazy!

In my experience, CVS has never been the cheapest option around for much except when it's on sale. They are about convenience and getting you in the store with their coupons and Extra Bucks.

There is one tax free holiday weekend every year in August. It was this past weekend. IMHO, it's a $25 million giveaway that really doesn't generate much additional business for retailers. It just compresses many purchases into a single weekend.

Stop & Shop isn't the cheapest deal either, but at nearly half off I wasn't complaining. They are usually the last place I look for drugs (I get my scripts there though)

Most sales are just people delaying what they needed to buy at some point anyway.
