Default West Haven

Is the West Haven commuter train station definitely happening?
What is the time scale?
Can the proposal still be pulled?

What is West Haven like?
Is there any dodginess?

We saw cute houses walk to shore in Ocean Ave area. View of water from upstairs bedroom. Homes were on pretty tight lots, but that is common in waterfront community.

Thanks for any insight!

As far as I know the station is happening, money has been secured, etc. but I don’t live in the area anymore so I am not positive of its current status. I grew up in Milford and have lived in West Haven. WH has terrible schools and high taxes, hence the cheap(er) housing costs as opposed to neighboring towns. There are some downright lovely neighborhoods, as well as dicey areas. The sketchiest, in my opinion, is near the New Haven line around Elm St. Right along the water is good, near the Milford/Orange town lines is fine too. There are many decent areas and a few not so good ones.

Be aware not only is the mill rate high for taxes, but WH also hits you with a fire district tax. For more info on exactly what you would have to pay, contact the city assessor. Also be aware that your annual car tax will be out of control if you have a new-ish car. Back in 2003-ish I paid $650 a year in taxes for a new car (nothing fancy, a regular mid-priced car).

Thanks for the background.
Do you have any recollection of Fairview Ave off of Ocean?

I didn't know the street so I looked at a map. That area is good, anywhere that end of town off of Jones Hill Rd will be a perfectly fine neighborhood. Nice walking distance to the beach too!
