Default Stratford

What do you think of Stratford? How are the schools? How is the quality of life? How diverse/tolerant is it? What do you think of the neighborhood south of the metro north and 95 line? Would you raise a family there?

A p.s. to add...what is that neighborhood called? It's near the Historical Society, I didn't mean as far south as Lordship.

In Stratford, generally you have to be careful south of Route 1. There are a few areas that may be questionable. If you have a specific street, please let us know and I am sure someone here can help with an opinion. Jay

No offense, Jay, but i feel that your generalization is just a bit off the mark. I live in the north end and we have a tendency to poke fun at the south end, but by and large, the south end is quite safe. The only streets that i would be hesitant to walk down on a summer night, would be Woodend Rd. and the confluence of Bruce/Stratford/Barnum(yes, you guessed it, at the Bpt. line).

I know that there are many nice neighborhoods south of Route 1 in Stratford but it hard to just pick a couple of small areas to avoid. Thanks for giving the OP a more detailed area to avoid. Jay

I'm a 60+ professional woman moving to work in Bridgeport. I have appreciated all your advice to the young man who is coming here with his wife to start a family. Based on your advice to him and my own internet research, Stratford looks very good.

Do you have any words of advice for me? Is Stratford more of a family area or would it be comfortable for a single professional? I want a safe area and probably a townhouse as I do not want to be involved in lawn care, etc. Commute to NYC is irrelevant as I'll be working in Bridgeport. Love the water but my budget is closer to $250,000. Maybe I could stretch to $275,000.

Thanks in advance for anything you can tell me.

Oronoque Village is an age-restricted community in the far northern end of Stratford. You should be able to find some units within your price range. It's not near the shore, obviously, but it is a very safe neighborhood.

I live beside Oronoque Village in Stratford & can reaffirm that it is a very safe & pleasant place. Unless you're looking at a 1BR apartment, the larger homes will probably be closer to the 300K range. They have a couple of open houses right now, in case you have the time to take a look after getting here.
