One of the nicest small museums around: The New Britain Museum of American Art. A wonderful collection that includes works by many of the most famous American artists... in a newly renovated/expanded building overlooking pretty Walnut Hill Park (designed by Frederick Law Olmstead). Not enough people know about this gem!

Also, a few of my favorite outdoor places, most are not well known:

* Lake Waramaug state park in New Preston (small park on a large lake!)
P.S. if you go, try to have lunch at the Hopkins Inn overlooking the lake...

* Bartlett Arboretum & Gardens in Stamford

* Topsmead state park in Litchfield
* Booth Memorial park in Stratford
