Someone asked about free activities and local parks.
Check with your local library- many offer museum passes. When visiting my parents last spring, my mother and I decided to go see the Impressionists By the Sea exhibit at Wadsworth. We were able to borrow passes to get into the museum and only had to pay for the special exhibit. We were also able to get passes to the Pequot Museum that way. You may only be able to get two at a time, but it certainly helps.
The Lutz Museum in Manchester is not very expensive. Welcome to The Lutz Children's Museum I think it's $5 for adults and free for kids under 12 or something. It's small but fun.
And as for local parks, I used to love Wickham Park in Manchester. It has a lot to offer- an aviary, nature center, sports (tennis courts, softball diamonds, volleyball courts, bike trails, etc.), playgrounds, gardens. They're even creating a sensory garden now. It's a few dollars for each car to get in, but not charged by person. They have bathrooms. Wickham Park News Headlines

Love your optimism. How about places to go in CT in the WINTER??? What does one do if they do not cross country ski, or snowshoe? I am going out of my mind and running out of ideas. Seems like I have "been there, done that" syndrome. Not to mention that I was thinking of talking to my family doctor about Seasonal Affective Disorder {SAD}, and I never have problems with depression!!

How about indoor Ice Skating or bowling? Even the smaller towns offer rec. activities like an open gym for families.
Even though it is cold, it is very sunny out. Bundle up and go for a walk and get your fill of Vitamin D!

I noticed a few mentions of Museums and Theaters. i didn't see any mention of The Florence Griswold Museum in Old Lyme. They're open year-round (Except for the Chadwick Studio). It's a nice area. I enjoyed the visit and I don't even like art, my wife dragged me there and i enjoyed the area and the history (One thing CT has A LOT of!). The Groton Submarine Museum is another worthy stop - (Electric Boat and General Dynamics have a history going back to the late 1800s).

A video of the state park system...about 10 minutes long and well worth the watch.
They go through most of the popular state parks and whatnot. Very nice video.
