Someone has been posting on a lot of the boards along this topic, I think trying to upset people. People on section 8 usually aren't job transferring types. I certainly don't mind when my dollars go to help an abused spouse get out of a bad situation, but I also don't want to help assistance abusers

I have an idea...when times are tough, tighten your belt and move into a place that costs less.
I know, I know - damn the thought.

Sorry my friend, but when the public is asked to subsidize and support something it is our business and we do have say in the matter. Perhaps you wish to live in a communist country where you are told to just "shut up" and "you have no say" but that's not where I want to live.

Not only am I sorry for the disrespectful people on this board, but I'm also sorry that I'm from Connecticut. Growing up in crappy Waterbury, I'm sorry for the people who made comments in this thread who must have "I did it, it was easy for me, so you should be able to do it too" syndrome. I'm sorry that, even online, you can still find Connecticut residents that don't even know you still find a way to judge you. I CAN'T EVEN BELIEVE that after 5 pages of political ranting and disrespect that shouldn't even belong on this board, someone had the AUDACITY to say "oh, you really have a bad side to you"
You have witnessed the middle-upper class of Connecticut first hand. Around here, there's no love for the people who live at the bottom; there's always someone on top who will tell you that 'you're doing it WRONG'
Oh, and I'm sorry that given my background, I couldn't offer any useful advise as to what to do. My mom always handled that for me. But I'll always be around to answer anything that I can

I hardly think that those those ranted the loudest about Section 8 are the middle-upper class of Connecticut...

You probably want to avoid anything east of New Haven (that would be Madison, Guilford, and possibly Branford) if your husband drives to work during normal working hours. I live in East Haven and work in New Haven, but East Haven school system is not rated very highly. I work evenings so avoid the regular rush hour traffic. They have been "working" on I-95 in this area for a dozen years and maybe 10 more years of that mess to look at. Wallingford has some affordable housing, north of Whalley Ave. are 2 affluent suburbs that would probably be unaffordable. North Branford, a town separate from Branford, is accessible to New Haven via a secondary road, Route 80 that is better than I-95 at this point.
Hope this is helpful to you.

Avoid Madison and Guilford? If they can find a 3 bedroom in Madison or Guilford then they should go for it because it would be worth the extra commute

Whew...for a minute I thought you might be trying to label me with all that stuff.
Glad that's out of the way.
I grew up in "crappy" Waterbury too. Glad to know you, neighbor
I'll assume you're in college. The world changes a bit when you graduate - trust me on this.
As for this thread, this is my take:
My heart goes out to someone having a disabled child, really it does - or anyone else dealing with a hardship. I've been there and still am in many regards. But at the same time, I do not think that it entitles you to certain things I.E. keeping a "luxurious" lifestyle you once had if you can't afford it any longer. If it's not possible *right now* it's not possible. You are not owed that by the government. Sorry. Sometimes life hands you lemons. Are you going to find someone with tequila and make some happy lemonaid and have a party with what you got - or are you going to cry in a pot and curl up and die?
Times will change, things will get better, life will improve. Hard work, determination and a postive mindset go a long way to having a happy life no matter if you are living in a $650.00 a month rent or a $1500.00 a month rent.
I wish more people in this country would get out of the entitlement, victomhood mindset and realize we live in the greatest nation on earth. You can achieve and be anything you want here. Poor, rich, stupid, smart, disabled, black, white, Spanish...whatever.
I think if more people were told "YOU CAN do it, you CAN suceed, you HAVE the ability to do better, work hard, work diligent, you are NOT beaten, you are NOT worthless, you are NOT unable" etc it would change our society in an order of magnatude.
Ask this guy if he thinks you can make something with your life regardless of hardships...in fact I would say it was his hardships that motivated him!
