Finding Temporary Summer Work Near UCONN/Hartford
Hi, I want to move up to CT next month to spend the summer there before starting Grad school at UCONN Storrs in late August.
I wanted to know if any of you could provide help as to what places I should look at for summer temp employment.
I checked the UCONN website...but those jobs were $8-9 an hour low paying.
I have office experience and business coursework.
If you know of any good temp agencies to contact or other places please let me know!
Thanks!

That probably will not cover rent...and anyway...I wanted to see different options since UCONN has just a couple.

With only 1 to 2 years office experience (though you didnt say how many years you have of it) I would expect you wouldn't make more then 12 or 13 dollars an hour max anyway.
But I would just search for Temp Agencies in the area, though you will need to do testing for them before they search for a match for you.

I have 1-2 years office experience.
I was wondering if any of you could recommend a temp agency near Hartford that is reputable.

Most of the large agencies place "bait" ads in the paper to solicit folks looking for jobs to register with them. Once you call, they'll set up an appointment where you discuss your background, your desired position, and possibly get tested on the skills you claim to have.
It is usually after you've discussed the test results that you hear "if we get anything that matches your skills, we'll contact you."
Many of these companies are true to their word. But remember, each recruiter is an individual - some are more diligent than others. Some prefer working with client companies to get positions; others prefer to screen individuals to fill open orders.
Here are some suggestions:
1) Select an agency/recruiter that specializes in your area of expertise. Some specialize in the the accounting profession while others do office administration or general labor.
2) View indeed.com, monster, com, or careerbuilder.com to see which placement companies seem to have postings.
3) View these postings for specific recruiters' names. If they're generic, they're probably one of the "bait" ads. Also, view them to see how often they're re-posted. You'll be surprised.
Good luck.
By the way, wages vary greatly by company and by area. General office is probably $11 - $14 in the Hartford area. It drops for New Haven but increases greatly for lower Fairfield County.
