It was $3.799 at Mobil on the Merritt Parkway today. Generally speaking, the price of the low-grade gas at Mobil stations on the parkways and interstates almost always matches the reported statewide average.

I noticed this today too. It is 10 cents cheaper ON the highway than it is off the exit in Norwalk.

Higher oil and natural gas prices helped Royal Dutch Shell and BP report record first-quarter profits on Tuesday, beating analysts’ expectations and prompting share gains across the industry.
The oil companies are laughing all the way to the bank. And don't forget that oil isn't just used for heating our homes and gasoline. Oil is used in the production of plastic and just about everything else that is manufactured!

Corporate welfare pumps cash to Big Oil | pnj.com | Pensacola News Journal

Quote:
last year, Exxon was able to brag that they took home $40 billion in profits in the same year U.S. taxpayers were giving the cash-flush oil companies subsidies worth around $6 billion.

There is a move in Congress to end that giveaway. But our president has pledged to veto any bill that would put a halt to Big Oil's billion-dollar corporate welfare tax breaks.

Here's how the corporate subsidy welfare system works for America's Exxons:

It begins with the fact that the true cost of gasoline is around $10 per gallon. U.S. consumers don't pay that price at the pump like European consumers have for years.

I just watched the traffic report on the news and, for once, traffic through Stamford wasn't a parking lot. It was heavy still, but not bumper to bumper as it usually is.

The commuter lot off of 84 in Newtown was full this morning, so your husband may be on to something.

Just keep in mind most of those profits are going right back to the investors which include tons of mutual funds and 401k accounts. It's not like the CEO, Bush or Cheney are out in the front yard with a leave rake pulling in the cash.

I do think there is corruption but it's far from only being in the oil companies...probably a bit further East.
