I am moving to CT and West Hardtford looks like the area for us. I have two kids. Can anyone tell me what the square between prospect, Farmington, Park and south Quaker is like? The schools would be Whiting lane and King Philips, I think.

I lived in the area for a year and still own a home there. I researched the area heavily before I purchased and now work with clients looking to buy in the area so I know it pretty well.

The area is very walkable, with sidewalks and actual places to walk to, like restaurants, a market, etc. You would be in between West Hartford center and the Hartford line, so the location is convenient. The Park Road area is what West Hartford used to be like - with local businesses rather than chain stores.

Depending on the street, there is a mix of single families and multi-families. Multi-families do not generally positively impact a neighborhood but in this area, there are some really nice streets with very well maintained multi-families. The homes in this area tend to be older - 1920s, 1930s but all pretty solidly built.

This area is slightly more diverse than the rest of West Hartford but Whiting Lane School has an interesting mix of neighborhoods represented at the school - the Park Rd/Farmington Ave neighborhood and the neighborhood near Elizabeth Park differ greatly in the average price per home.

From friends and associates, I hear the Whiting Lane school is excellent - as are all the schools in West Hartford. I don't know much about Kinp Phillip - everyone I know either has little children or high school students.

I echo the second poster's comments about this area of West Hartford. I've always appreciated the neighborhood's diverse housing, independent business establishments, and demographics. Regrettably, much of Connecticut remains racially and ethnically segregated along municipal lines. The Park Road and Quaker Lane area is one of the more diverse neighborhoods you'll find in greater Hartford.
