Of these places, which is the most desireable place to live? IE: best schools, least crime, clean town...etc. I am moving to CT from mass. and need some help deciding on where to go.

What is your price range? Do you prefer rural, suburban or urban? You have many choices in the New Haven area.

West of New Haven you have Woodbridge, Orange, Milford, Ansonia, Derby, Seymour, Stratford and Shelton. To the North you have Hamden, North Haven, Bethany, Wallingford and Cheshire. East of the city is Branford, Guilford, Madison, East Haven, North Branford, Killingworth and Clinton. New Haven itself has some desirable neighborhoods. East Rock and Westville are very attractive. Public schools in New Haven aren't great though.

With a price range, we can help narrow down your choices. Most of these towns have excellent schools and are very desirable.

If you are talking about East Haven, New Haven, West Haven and North Haven. North Haven would have the best schools, least crime, etc. It is a traditional suburban community with good schools and lots of local shopping. New Haven is a city that has many urban issues with crime and poor performing schools. West Haven is a city, but more suburban, schools are not that great and housing prices reflect this, there is also a spill over affect of crime from New Haven seeping in. if you're looking for a high quality family life, North haven, then followed by East Haven are the better choices.

There's really no reason to limit yourself to West-/East-/North-/New Haven. In terms of public schools, I'm pretty sure North Haven is the best of those options, though, if you need to know. Are you looking to buy or to rent? Are you willing to commute 20 minutes? Take the train? Are you working in downtown New Haven?

I would agree. If you're talking about the four Havens, North Haven is by far your best option. If your budget allows it, there are even nicer towns with better schools very close to New Haven.

I was referring to west haven, north haven, east haven, and new haven. I'm not limiting myself to these places, I was just curious as to which one would offer me the best options.

North Haven defintiely has the better rated schools than the others. You can check them out at the links below. Jay

Of those choices, North Haven is the best. But it all depends on your needs and price range. North Haven is also the farthest away from New Haven, so more gas/time commuting. There are parts of downtown New Haven that are actually quite nice (East Rock area) but not a great family neighborhood. What are your parameters?
