Default East hampton Comstock trail or spice hill???

Hi everyone! Hubby and I are relocating back to CT. I am interested in E. Hampton. I find a lot of home for sale on Comstock trail and I am wondering why that is? Is this a new neighborhood or is everyone running out of there for some reason? I also see lots of houses in "the spice hill" neighborhood. Not sure where or what "spice hill" is? Is this a nice area? Any info is much appreciated.

Spice Hill is near the high school off of Rt. 66. I live in Marlborough (next town to the east), but I haven't heard of any issues over there. I have a good friend on North Maple (in that area) and think it is a nice neighborhood.

I wasn't familiar with Comstock Trail so I Googled it. That is the part of East Hampton I really like. I am not the biggest fan of some areas of E Hampton, but really it is all personal preference (nothing to do with anything important like safety). I can't think of a "con" with either area. Perhaps someone in town will reply and know something, but I can't think of anything going on in either neighborhood that would send people running.

Thanks for the info...What is Marlborough like? I have lived in NYC, BX, Yonkers, then White Plains, then Pleasantville for 8 yrs. Pleasantville was my favorite, nice town, next to Chappaqua, Briarcliff, etc. Kind of expensive to live there but I enjoyed the town feel but now I want MORE space, MORE bang for my buck and a nice size yard...seems E. Hampton has those...but I am open to Marlborough if it has those.

I believe Spice Hill first went into development in the 1980s. There are new phases of this development still under construction. It is a great family neighborhood with LOTS of kids. The first draw back (for me) that comes to mind is that the lots are very small. A larger lot in this subdivision would be 1/2 acre. That can be a positive for someone who doesn't like yard work.
I do know that the homes have a reputation to not be of the highest quality. It isn't like they are put together with particle board or anything but the builder wouldn't be on the top of the list of local builders in that area. I'm pretty sure the older homes were done by a different developer. I know the neighborhood is considered to be an excellent place to raise a family.

Comstock Trail is much newer. I'm pretty sure the majority of the homes have been built in the 21st century. This development is also known to be family friendly. The lots are much bigger here than in Spice Hill. There are several builders who have built here. It is off of Waterhole Road which can be both a plus and a minus. It is very quiet in this area as it is pretty much out in the middle of nowhere. That is the minus. It takes some time to get into town, whether you are going into town in East Hampton, Colchester or Moodus. This part of East Hampton is very close to the Colchester and Moodus town lines.

Thanks for the EH info cool_mommy, I knew someone here was in EH but I couldn't remember who!

Most houses in Marlborough are on 1+ acre. The way the market is now, you can probably get a good deal of house/yard for your money.

In town, there is not much going on…a couple restaurants, a couple banks, a small market, a dry cleaners. Most of the town is residential. People here are quite friendly, as it was a farming community until the 60s or so when it started becoming a bedroom community for Hartford. You don’t get the “I’ve been here forever and don’t need anymore friends” attitude that some towns have where it is hard to meet people. There is a lake for town residents to use, though nowhere near the size of the lake in E Hampton.

For grocery needs, you could travel to either E Hampton, Glastonbury, or Colchester, depending what part of town you live in. I am in the northern part of town so I am less than 15 minutes from Glastonbury and Whole Foods, Home Depot, other big grocery chains, retail options, etc. I like it here because I feel like I am in a rural/quiet area, but everything I need is not far away.

When I decided to move out this way I originally looked at Hebron, E Hampton, and Marlborough and decided on Marlborough. I don’t know if you have been to the area or not, but it will probably do some good to take a drive through the towns. They have very different feels, so you will be able to easily see what suits you better.

I have a coworker that lives in Spice Hill and they really like there. They have a nice house with very nice neighbors. You should know that Spice Hill is one long road with a couple of smaller roads off of it. If you live near the entrance, there will be a lot of cars driving by your house each day. The homes in Spice hill are on smaller lots and a little more modest than Comstock Trail though. Comstock Trail is a very nice neighborhood with large lots and newer homes.

I have heard mixed review of the schools in East Hampton though. My coworker is satisfied but I know others who find the schools lacking. You can check out information on the schools there at the links below.

Marlborough is a beautiful somewhat rural town. There are some very nice neighborhoods there and the schools are very good. Marlborough is a little more upscale than East Hampton. You might also check out neighboring Hebron which is beautiful too and has a little more shopping than Marlborough. Jay

Are you asking about this or suggesting it. If you are aksing, this is a very nice area and Flannery is considered a good builder. The homes are custom and more expensive. Very nice though for the money. JMHO Jay

Yep, I was asking. Thanks Jay! Maybe by this time next year I'll actually have information to help others with on CT but for now I only give advice about San Diego and other places I've lived.
