Looking for K-5 school strong in arts and sciences - FFD or NewHaven Counties
I am new to Connecticut and currently living in Fairfield. I'm looking to move again and the school system is my driving force. I know FFD schools are supposedly excellent, but I have two highly creative and science -oriented children. I'm looking for a school in either FFD or New Haven counties that excels in arts and sciences - public or private. Anything come to mind?
Thank you in advance,
Ellie

I'm not sure about specific districts, but Westport is an artsy town so I'd imagine that has influence on the schools. Just a thought.

I hate to tell you this, but if Fairfield schools do not suit your needs, I doubt you will find any public school that will. Fairfield schools are pretty diverse and comprehensive in curriculum and offer a wide range of choices that most other school districts do not. You might want to look into magnet schools which tend to specialize in curriculum. Not sure which ones specialize in science or the arts. You probably won't find one though that specializes in both. Good luck, Jay

new haven has a bunch of specialized magnet schools for arts and also some for science and environmental studies. while these have specialized curriculums, i THINK that admission is simply a lottery system. no guarantee your kids would be in. also, keep in mind that the students are not necessarily fairfield-types. (i think this diversity is great, others may not). these schools are highly desireable to families in the new haven public school system, which is weak, so i hear they get many applications.

Lizzie is correct. Magnet schools are popular and can be difficult to get in. Jay
