Also from Danbury the train line involves switching in Stamford, or for a more direct train you have to drive a couple of exits on I-84 west in to New York and get on in Brewster.

To New York City? While it's possible with Shore Line East to Metro North, it would still be 2 hours plus? I don't believe it. I think New Haven's as far as people go, and that's even pushing it a little bit. Hartford's a bit of a big car drive but doable.

Speaking of which, take the Merritt/Wilbur Cross Parkway to I-91 when going to Hartford, NOT I-95 to I-91. Most of it (especially the I-91 part) is fine, but I have had to occasionally drive up to Hartford and back (I live in Westchester County, NY) for the day a couple of times the last couple of months and I find the I-95/91 interchange in New Haven is almost always backed up.

Also, if you leave Hartford after 7pm (I learned this last night, my most recent of the above trips), they are doing massive construction on I-91 south in the Wethersfield area so for now you may actually want to take I-84 west to Waterbury and down rt. 8 if you're working late (at that hour it will be fine, closer to rush hour 84 is pretty bad in Waterbury because for some reason the road goes from 3-4 lanes down to 2 in a populated area, never figured that one out.....).

Why Stratford station? Generally most of Trumbull would be closer to Bridgeport station. Also note that there is good bus service from Trumbull to Bridgeport. For car pool information check out Rideworks which is an organization that arranges carpools. Jay

I agree with you to avoid I-95/I-91 in New Haven by taking the parkway. I am not sure where there is construction on I-91 in Wethersfield though. I thought that I-84 west of Hartford was still having construction going on and you should avoid that area. check with ConnDOT's website for where construction is going on.

As for your question on the Waterbury lane drop, the portion of I-84 that is 3 and 4 lanes is part of a multi-contract project to widen the highway through Waterbury. The widened part is the first phase. The problem is there is no money for the rest of it. Eventually it will get done as the state and feds find the money. Jay

Sign said it was between exits 25 and 23. Maybe somehow they weren't doing construction on I-84 yesterday for some reason, because I saw signs, but nothing. Or maybe it was later at night (I hit this about 7:30 or so).

Thanks for clearing up why the mess in Waterbury.

I just went to the ConnDOT website and there is a paving project on I-91 in Wethersfield and Rocky Hill going on. It started last week. Thye do not say for how long it will be going on but these usually take a few months. Jay
