Tell me about Connecticut! I really hate the state of new jersey and right now and want to move to either Austin (TX), NYC, Boston/Salem (MA), even Detroit, and possibly Connecticut.
I a 19. Can you tell me about Connecticut, New Haven, and some other areas. The people, lifestyle, clubs/stores/bars, drive to NY and MA, foxwoods, etc.

Connecticut is a very nice state, especially for families looking to raise children. The areas of the state are very different. You have SW Connecticut extending from Waterbury and New Haven toward NYC which offers an excellent quality of life if you can afford it (it should'nt be much different in price than northern NJ though.) There is also the Hartford area which is much cheaper than Fairfield County and has a lot going for it. The eastern suburbs are growing rapidly and Hartford itself, while still high crime, is slowly turning itself around.
New Haven itself is a great college town with lots of culture and things to do. The bar/club scene is IMO the best in Connecticut and the cost of living is reasonable for its location and what the city offers. East Rock and Westville are very nice neighborhoods - though many areas south of Rt 34 can get sketchy. The great thing about New Haven is the proximity to NYC - you can hop on Metro-North and be there in under 2 hours. Boston is also 2.5 hours away but you'd have to drive or take Amtrak.
If I were you I'd stay FAR away from Detroit. The city is economically depressing and one of the highest crime (if not, THE highest) cities in the USA. Home prices may be appealing but there is a reason for it. Boston is great but is expensive. If you can afford it, I say go for it. The city is very nice, clean and the bars/nightlife is great.
I think everyone should live in NYC once. If you can afford it and have the opportunity, you won't regret it.
Again though - If you're looking to live in CT - my advice is consider New Haven. Job opportunities in the area are also another big plus. Good luck

About New Haven....would you consider it to be New York based of Boston based in terms of sports terms and overall affinity?
For example, Fairfield County is all about New York in terms sports teams and affinity...is New Haven like that or is it more Boston or half and half?
I've been confused because the Red Sox have been displaying their trophy in New Haven...yet the city is just 75 miles from New York and is much more like New York tri state areawise in terms of climate, proxmity.
I'd think it would be 75% NY...is it still a NY town?

I think this has been discussed many, many times on the boards. You can search for the threads and find what the CD regulars think.

Pardon me for asking this, but, why are you posting this same question ad nauseum? I think there is a sports board somewhere that would be more suitable for your question.

I'm really interested in knowing if New Haven is more or less like Fairfield County in being very much a part of the tri state region or if it's more like Eastern CT and being more like affiliated with Boston...and if so why since NY is 50 miles near.

Visit New Haven and take in the surroundings - then you will see firsthand.

What is it about NJ you do not like? Connecticut is nice and somewhat quiet state that has a lot to offer. The people tend to be more reserved here which should not be taken to mean they are unfriendly at all. There is a modest nightlife in the larger cities and you are a reasonable distance to NYC or Boston. New Haven or Hartford are good areas to start. They are more reasonably priced than NYC or Boston but their location would allow you access to either city in 2 hours or less. hope this helps, Jay

I feel like it has been answered a few times, but I guess once more can't hurt...
New Haven County, especially New Haven and west, is more associated with the rest of southwestern CT (south of Litchfield County) and the NY Metro area than the Boston area and the rest of New England. You have Metro-North RR serving commuters into Manhattan and a large number of people (the majority I believe) are NY sports fans. A large number of people I have met in New Haven County are former New Yorkers - either being originally from the city or Westchester County. New Haven County is very similar to Fairfield County in many ways, just a little less expensive.
I still think Connecticut is Connecticut - regardless of the associations, metro areas and what have you, people here are very similar whether you live in Stamford or Hartford.
Does that answer your question?
