Default East Haven

I spent the day at east haven today and was quiet chared by the homes I saw along Townsend Ave that led to Lighthouse park. When I came home I searched real estate prices in that area and was surprised to see East Haven prices were very affordable compared to some other costal towns. Beach front homes were cheaper than similar ones in milford for example and even Bridgeport. Whats wrong with East Haven that the prices are relatively good? Crime? Schools? Is this just a good find?
I' just curious but this might help others

Iraq Vet, Townshend Av. is wholly in New Haven. As for East Haven it gets a pretty bad rap (founded or unfounded)for a number of things. Before I left CT. I owned a home there I didn't find it to be bad. My children were all educated in the public schools and have gone on to colleges and are enjoying success. I saw no problem with any of their educational opportunities. Taxes are better than some places and worse than others. One concern I might have is the "Q" Bridge Construction, No longer living in the area I don't know it's status but it will certainly be a long draw out affair and if your commute takes you west it will be no fun.

Joey is correct that Townsend Avenue is actually New Haven. The Town of East Haven is located to the east of this area. East Haven is a very nice community and you are correct that home prices there are more reasonable. One reason could be that the schools are not rated as high as other nearby communities like Branford, Guilford or Madison. Students there generally perform just under or around the State averages on the Connecticut Mastery and Connecticut Academic Performance tests. Class sizes are reasonable being around 20 students per class. You can check more information on the East Haven school district and the schools there at the websites below. Hope this helps, Jay

Actually Townsend Avenue is entirely in New Haven. Before it enters East Haven it turns into South End Road. Jay

East Haven does have one distinction. It's probably the only town/city in Connecticut that was parodied by a local radio station:
YouTube - CHRISTMAS IN EAST HAVEN (remix).
